Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

  
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION - ARREST C11-188724
On September 6th, 2011 at approximately 8:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Dugald Road and Goodyear Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 19 year old male was operating a Toyota pick-up truck eastbound on Dugald Road near Goodyear Avenue, when he came upon traffic which was stopped due to construction in the area. In order to avoid rear ending the stopped traffic, the 19 year old veered into the westbound lanes subsequently colliding head-on with a Dodge Neon.
 
The 53 year old male driver of the westbound vehicle was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains at this time. The 19 year old male was also conveyed to hospital but in stable condition.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit responded to the scene.
 
The 19 year old male is facing the following charges: Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm and Possess Prohibited Weapon.
 
Distracted driving appears to be a contributing factor.
 
The 19 year old male has been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING - ARREST C11-188754
On September 6th, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m. uniform members responded to a suite located in the 100 block of Barber Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located a 43 year old female victim suffering from multiple upper body injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition, later upgraded to stable but guarded condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim and her common law partner, a 54 year old male, became involved in a verbal dispute. The conflict escalated at which time the male retrieved a tool and proceeded to stab the victim. The male suspect eventually fled the residence prior to police arrival.
 
A short time later, officers located the suspect at a residence on Euclid Avenue at which time he was placed under arrest.
 
The 54 year old male has been charged with: Attempted Murder, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Breach of Recognizance.
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
STABBING C11-188749
On September 6th, 2011 at approximately 8:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 300 block of Portage Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located an 18 year old male suffering from a non-life threatening injury to his lower body. At this stage of the investigation it appears that the victim and unknown suspect became involved in a verbal dispute. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim to the lower body before fleeing the area.
 
The victim was treated and released from hospital.
 
The investigation is continuing.
