Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Weapons Arrest                                       C11-187518
 
On September 4, 2011 at approximately 11:00 p.m Winnipeg Police responded to the Weston area in regards to a residential break and enter in progress. Numerous police units responded as well as AIR1. While searching the area, AIR1 observed a vehicle operating erratically in the area, and this vehicle was stopped by police units in the area.
 
The vehicle contained 3 occupants and it was determined they were not involved in the break and enter. Further investigation from attending police members resulted in the seizure of several weapons inside the vehicle. Seized was a firearm with ammunition, and assorted prohibited edged weapons.
 
A 20 year old male from Winnipeg is facing charges of Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace x 3, Unauthorized possession of a firearm x2, and various weapons related offences.
 
A 27 year old male from Lac Du Bonnet is facing weapons charges.
 
An 18 year old male is facing a charge of drive dangerous.
 
Commercial Robbery Arrest                  C11-187829         
 

Between September 4th and September 5, a male stole a vehicle from the St James area of the City of Winnipeg.
 
On September 5, 2011, at approximately 10:00 a.m., this male attended to a restaurant in the 1100 block of Notre Dame Avenue. It was at this time he asked for change from the clerk, and once the till was opened, stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
Later this date at approximately 1:00 p.m. this same male suspect attended to another restaurant in the 3100 block of Roblin Boulevard. Once again he requested change from the till, and subsequently jumped over the counter and stole an amount of cash.
 
At approximately 2:30 p.m. the suspect was observed entering the driver's seat of the stolen vehicle by members of the Street Crime Unit in the 300 block of Agnes Street. A traffic stop was attempted, however the male refused to stop resulting in a pursuit.
 
The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle collided with a fence in the 600 block of Beverley Street. After a brief foot pursuit, the male was arrested.
 
As a result of the investigation from the Major Crimes Unit, a 26 year old male of no fixed address if facing the following charges:
 
  • Robbery x 2
  • Theft Under
  • Drive Dangerous
  • Flight from Police Officer
 
He will later be detained at the Provincial Remand Center.
 
 
 
 
Break and Enter Residential Arrests        C11-188095
 
On September 5, 2011 at approximately 9:28PM a male and female youth attended to the 100 block of University Crescent. The resident was at home at the time, and the suspects smashed a basement window where they gained entry and ransacked the residence and fled the area.
 
Winnipeg Police were notified and with the assistance of AIR1, K-9, Division 14 and Division 16 general patrol members located the suspects in the area.
 
A 15 year old male and a 15 year old female are facing a charge of Break and Enter and were released on Promise to Appears.
 
Commercial Robbery                            C11-188183
 
On September 5, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m members of the Winnipeg Police service were dispatched to the 900 block of Redwood Ave in regards to a commercial robbery. Police learned that a pizza delivery driver had been robbed and the suspects had fled.
 
With the assistance of AIR1, K9, Tactical Support Team and Division 13 General Patrol Units, 5 persons were taken into custody. This investigation is ongoing by members of Division 13 Crime Unit.
 
More details will be released at a later time.
 
Residential Robbery                                              C11-188280
 
On September 6, 2011 at approximately 4:00 a.m, Winnipeg Police responded to a residence of the 700 Block of Flora. Attending officers located a male who had been stabbed in the upper body and learned that the suspect male had fled.
 
AIR1 attended to the scene as well as numerous other police units, and tracked the suspects with the assistance of K9.
 
The resident was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
 
Two persons are in custody at this time, and the investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit.
 
 
Shots                                                 C11-188295
 
 
On September 6, 2011 at approximately 5:30 a.m Winnipeg Police members attended to the 100 block of Balmoral Avenue in regards to the report of shots heard. This incident is currently being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit. No further information will be released today.
