MISSING PERSON – JERIMIAH JAMES BRAYSHAW – C11-20235
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 44 year old male, Jerry BRAYSHAW, aka: Jerry MOTH.  BRAYSHAW is described as a caucasin male, 5'7" tall, with short/ balding straight brown hair and brown eyes.
  
BRAYSHAW was last seen on January 28th in the area of Spence Street and Ellice Avenue.
 
Investigators are concerned for BRAYSHAW's well being.  Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is requested to contact the Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

UNDERWATER SEARCH AND RECOVERY EFFORTS
The Winnipeg Police Service Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has concluded its search for Nathaniel Thorassie.  Over the past 28 days the Unit has searched from the Disraeli Bridge to the Redwood Bridge which represents approximately one kilometre of river bottom.  Unfortunately Nathaniel has not been located.  Our deepest condolences go out to Nathaniel's family as they move forward in their grieving process.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the Canadian Amphibious Search Team (CAST) and Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service for their assistance throughout the search.  A special thanks also goes to the Salvation Army who provided hot lunches and snacks to the searchers for the duration of the operation.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – ARREST - UPDATE C11-19754
As previously released, on January, 28, 2011 at approximately 11:25 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to the 700 block of Allegheny Drive regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located an injured male identified as, Cameron Jack WALKER, 16 years who was being assisted by people in the area.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim became involved in a minor dispute with several occupants within a residence. The victim eventually left the residence when a 28 year old male followed him outside. It was at this time a confrontation erupted and the 16 year old male was stabbed to the upper body. He was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition where he later succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
28 year old Matthew Craig KRASNY of Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder as a result of his alleged involvement.
 
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.

FIRE – ROAD CLOSURES C11-20723
On January, 30, 2011, at approximately 8:00 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a working fire at a residence in the area of the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.
 
As a result, several streets in the immediate area are closed to traffic.
 
A near-by apartment block has also been evacuated.
 
Motorists and pedestrians are requested to avoid the area until further notice.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – ARREST C11-19754
On January, 28, 2011 at approximately 11:25 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to the 700 block of Allegheny Drive regarding a stabbing incident.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.
 
 
VEHICLE ROBBERY – ARREST C11-19780
On January, 29, 2011 at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers responded to a robbery event in the area of Fermor Avenue and Pebble Beach Road. 
 
The investigation has revealed that an intoxicated male confronted a 61 year old female driver while stopped at a red light. The suspect proceeded to open the victim's car door and demanded that she exit immediately. The victim, along with her two dogs exited the vehicle as requested.
 
The suspect subsequently entered the vehicle and drove off northbound on Archibald Street. It was at this time police were notified of the encounter.
 
At approximately 12:30 a.m., the suspect, still operating the stolen vehicle became involved in a motor vehicle collision in the area of Pandora Avenue and Hoka Street. No one was injured and the suspect fled the area in the stolen vehicle.
 
Members of the RCMP assisted after observing the vehicle in the area of the Highway #1 and Highway #207.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service relocated the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Fermor Avenue from Plessis Road. A brief pursuit took place including the deploying of a tire deflation device. The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot in the area of Lomond Boulevard, but was apprehended by officers a short distance away.
 
A 17 year old male was arrested and charged with the following alleged offences:
 
·        Robbery with Theft
·        Flight from Police Officer
·        Impaired Driving
·        Drive Over .08
·        Mischief Under $5000.00
·        Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking x 2
·        Fail to remain at the scene of an accident – Highway Traffic Act
·        Drive without a licence –invalid licence – Highway Traffic Act
·        Consumer liquor under 18 years of age
 
He has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

MALE WANTED C10-98864
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating 30 year old Michael Victor MIKOLAJCZYK as a result of two outstanding warrants.
 
MIKOLAJCZYK is currently wanted in connection with several commercial break and enters that occurred within the City of Winnipeg.
 
He is described as: Male, Caucasian, 6'00" in height, 220 lbs., short brown hair and blue eyes.
 
 
MIKOLAJCZYK'S appearance may have changed somewhat as this is a dated photo.
 
MIKOLAJCZYK is not to be approached under any circumstance. 
 
Anyone with information regarding MIKOLAJCZYK'S whereabouts is asked to contact members of the East District Crime Unit at 986-2857, police non-emergency at 986-6222 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
FIRE C11-19347
On January 28, 2011 at approximately 11:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a building complex in the 200 block of Colony Street.
 
Two individuals have since been transported to hospital as a result of the incident.
 
Fire Investigators, Arson Strike Force members including members of the Winnipeg Police Service Forensic Identification Section remain at the scene.
 
The investigation is in its early stages. No further information is available at this time.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-19029
On January 27, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m., uniform members responded to a robbery event which occurred at a convenience store located in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male suspect armed with a knife entered the business and confronted a 32 year old male employee. A second suspect was observed standing outside the business at the time of the incident.
 
The suspect that entered the store jumped over the counter and began removing an undisclosed amount of cigarettes. He subsequently fled the area on foot.
 
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspects are described as:
 
Suspect 1 – (Entered the store) Male, 5'10" in height and a medium build.
 
Suspect 2 – (Stood outside store) Female, 5'8" in height.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
DRUG WARRANT ARREST C11-18636
On January 27, 2011, members of the District 2 Community Support Unit with the assistance of District 2 Crime Unit, Tactical Support Team and the Drug Unit, executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence in the 5000 block of Rannock Avenue.
 
As a result of the investigation, a grow operation was located within the residence including firearms and ammunition.
 
Officers seized the following:
 
·        218 Cannabis Marihuana Plants - estimated street value $244,160.00
·        Grow Operation Equipment – valued at $5000.00
·        .22 Calibre sawed off rifle and ammunition
·        12 gauge sawed off shotgun and ammunition
 
A 43 year old male has been arrested and is facing numerous drug and weapon related offences. He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING C11-19122
On January 28, 2011 at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Young Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the 23 year old male victim was walking in the area when he was approached by two male suspects. The suspects demanded the victim's property at which time a physical altercation occurred. As a result, the victim was stabbed to the lower body and the suspects fled with various personal items.
 
The victim was initially transported to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable condition.
 
No arrests have been made at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY C11-19225
On January 28, 2011 at approximately 5:50 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of Alverstone Street regarding a robbery incident.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears several armed males forced their way into a suite and assaulted a male occupant. Items were removed and the suspects fled the area.
 
Four individuals are presently in police custody.
 
The victim did not require medical treatment.
 
The investigation is in its early stages and Division 11 Detectives are actively involved. There is no further information available at this time.

PUBLIC ADVISORY – OFF ROAD VEHICLES
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind all operators of Off Road Vehicles that the operation of Off Road Vehicles within the City of Winnipeg is governed by:
 
  1. City of Winnipeg Vehicles By-law
  2. City of Winnipeg Frozen Waterways By-Law
  3. The Province of Manitoba's Off Road Vehicles' Act
These pieces of legislation restrict the use of some vehicles, and where these vehicles may be operated within the City of Winnipeg. If operators wish more information they can visit our Winnipeg Police website, and navigate to the Map outlining the areas where it is legal within the City of Winnipeg to operate an Off Road Vehicle. This map can be found under the following link.
 
 
The map also contains links to the City of Winnipeg Vehicle's By-Law and the Provincial Off-Road Vehicles Act. On the same page as the map there is also a link to the Frozen Waterways By-law which can be found at the following link
 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service encourages the public to make themselves familiar with the applicable by-laws and provincial legislation before operating an Off Road Vehicle within the City of Winnipeg. In the coming weeks police will be conducting enforcement related to Off Road Vehicles within the City of Winnipeg. If there are any questions regarding the use of Off Road Vehicles the public can contact the River Patrol at 986-7085.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-18323
On January 26, 2011 at approximately 11:15 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to a convenience store located in the 500 block of Keenleyside Street regarding a robbery which had just taken place.
 
Attending members learned that two male suspects entered the business and proceeded behind the service counter. One of the suspects confronted a 24 year old male employee while armed with a knife and demanded that the cash register be opened.
 
The employee complied with the demands, at which time both suspects fled the area with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. 
 
No injuries were sustained.
 
The suspects are described as follows:
 
Suspect 1 - Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 18-22 years of age, 5'8"-5'10" in height, face appeared rough or scarred.
 
Suspect 2 – Only described as male.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
ROBBERY ARREST C10-286143
As previously released, on December 17, 2010 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Uniform members responded to a report of a male being robbed and physically assaulted in the area of the 800 block of Keewatin Street.
 
Attending members located a 49 year old male victim who was being assisted by passersby.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim was walking to his parked vehicle when he was confronted by males unknown to him. The suspects approached the victim from behind and forced him into the suspect vehicle. It was at this time the suspects proceeded to bound and seriously assault the victim to the upper body. The suspects drove the victim a short distance when he was thrown out of the vehicle in the area of Smithhurst Street. The victim was robbed of several personal items as a result of the encounter.
 
The suspects fled the area in their vehicle.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital requiring medical treatment.
 
The investigation continued by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
 
On January 26, 2011, Christopher Wayne GUIBOCHE, 26 years was located, arrested and charged with the following alleged offences: Robbery with Violence, Kidnapping, Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance (Marihuana), including several Breaches. He has been detained.
  
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).  
 
   
STOLEN VEHICLE ARRESTS C11-17572
On January 25, 2011 at approximately 10:50 p.m., a pick up truck left running and unattended was stolen from the area of the first 100 block of Killarney Avenue.
 
The theft was reported to police at which time District 6 uniform members observed the stolen vehicle and suspects in the area. Officers followed until which time the stolen vehicle collided with an occupied vehicle in the area River Road and Riel Avenue. Both suspects fled from the stolen vehicle on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, both suspects were located and arrested.
 
The occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision sustained minor injuries.
 
Due to the efforts of Uniform members, Canine Unit and Stolen Auto Unit members:
 
A 24 year old male has been charged with: Theft Over $5000.00, Theft Under $5000.00, Drive While Disqualified, including additional breaches.
 
A 14 year old male has been charged with: Theft Over $5000.00.
 
They have been detained.
 
The Winnipeg Service would like to remind members of the public to refrain from leaving their running vehicles unattended for any amount of time.   
 
 
STABBING C11-18428
On January 27, 2011 at approximately 3:40 a.m., a 41 year old male was located in the area of Euclid Avenue and Austin Street suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound to the upper body.
 
While being transported and at hospital, the male was observed to be very aggressive toward medical personnel. He was provided medical treatment and eventually upgraded to stable condition.
 
Officers attempted to interview the male regarding what had taken place, but he was not forthcoming with information at that time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

PUBLIC ADVISORY – POOR DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO FOG
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to advise motorists that due to heavy fog conditions this morning in some areas of the city and surrounding areas, extreme caution should be taken into consideration.
 
Motorists are requested to reduce their speeds and allow themselves additional time in order to reach their destination.
 
Just Slow Down.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON UPDATE – STRONG ARM ROBBERY C11-8572 C11-13168
As previously released, on January 12, 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were summoned to the Elmwood area of Winnipeg regarding a suspicious person.
 
The investigation revealed that on the same date at approximately 4:00 p.m., an 11 year old female was walking in the area of Riverton Avenue and Watt Street when she was approached by an unknown male. This male proceeded to take hold of the victim's arm at which time the victim pulled away and fled the area. 
 
The victim was not injured as a result of the encounter.
 
On January 19, 2011, at approximately 9:25 a.m., Officers responded to a strong arm robbery which just occurred in the area of Brazier Street and Poplar Avenue.
 
It was determined that a 46 year old female victim was walking in the area when she was approached from behind by a male unknown to her. The suspect male took hold of the victim and assaulted her to the upper body, causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect subsequently fled the area with the victim's purse and contents.   
 
The male suspect is described in both instances as follows:
- Approximately 6'0"- 6'2" tall with an average build, wearing a black parka with brown fur on the hood, black baggy pants, a black ski mask and black finger gloves (fingers exposed).
 
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-17404
On January 25, 2011 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Uniform members responded to a commercial robbery at a business in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue.
 
The investigation has revealed that two male suspects entered the business, one of which was armed with a shotgun and the other a stick. One of the suspects demanded that the register be opened at which time the 49 year old male victim complied.
 
The suspects eventually fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and tobacco.
 
No one was injured as a result of the incident. 
 
The suspects are described as:
 
Suspect 1 -  Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 16-17 years of age, 5"2" tall, small build, wearing a baseball cap, black scarf around lower face, two tone sport jacket with a crest or writing on the front. Suspect 1 was observed to be in possession of a shotgun.  
 
Suspect 2 – Male, Caucasian, 15-16 years of age, small build, blonde hair collar length, wearing a dark green jacket. Suspect 2 was observed to be in possession of a stick.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-17536
On January 25, 2011 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Officer's responded to a distress alarm at a business in the 300 block of Broadway.
 
Attending members learned that a commercial robbery had taken place after an unknown male entered the store and demanded that the register be opened. An undisclosed amount of cash was relinquished and the suspect fled the area.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, 40-45 years of age, clean shaven, short brown hair, 6'5" tall, skinny build, wearing a blue puffy parka to his knees with grey fur around the hood and beige pants.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
