Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  

SERIOUS ASSAULT                           C11-186396
 
On September 3, 2011 at approximately 7:30AM, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 500 block of Sherbrook St in regards to an injured female.
 
The investigation has revealed that the female was the victim of a serious physical assault. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service are investigating the possibility that a sexual assault also took place.   The victim sustained significant injuries to her upper body.
 
The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics in unstable condition where she remains.
 
No suspect information is available at this time.
 
Investigators from the Sex Crimes Unit are continuing with this investigation. Anyone who has information is asked to 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 


 On September 2, 2011 at approx. 10:00PM, a youth female met a male in the area of Portage/Sherbrook. They attended to a residence in the East St Paul area for a gathering. A minor disturbance occurred, which resulted in the victim and the male leaving this residence.
 
The victim and the male attended to a secluded area in the 1900 block of Main St,, and once alone the accused grabbed the victim from behind, threw her to the ground where he seriously sexually assaulted her. They then left that location on foot, with the male refusing to let the victim go.
 
In the following three hours, the male refused to let the victim go and committed three further serious sexual assaults in different secluded locations.
 
The victim was able to call 911 and an open line was heard. Members of the Winnipeg Police attended this area. The male forced the victim to hide to attempt and avoid detection by attending police officers. Attending police members were able to locate the male and the victim together at Main St and Armstrong, where he was taken into custody.
 
Members of Division 13, and Division 41 investigated this matter.
 
Richard Darren Rondeau, 26 years of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
 
  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Utter Threats
  • Break and Enter place and commit indictable offence
 
 
Rondeau was detained at the Provincial Remand Center.
