HOMICIDE UPDATE – C13-198965
As previously released, on Sunday, September 29, 2013 shortly after 4:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of St Marys Road & Essex Avenue for the report of a male shot.
 
Attending members located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  A 27 year old male was transported in stable condition.
 
A 22 year old male was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Justin Stewart LATINECZ 22 years of Winnipeg.

HOMICIDE – C13-198965
On Sunday, September 29, 2013 shortly after 4:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of St Marys Road & Essex Avenue for the report of a male shot.
 
Attending members located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  A 22 year old male was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.  The second victim, a 27 year old male was transported in stable condition.
 
This investigation is in the early stages and is continuing.  Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at (204) 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST – C13-198701
On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at approximately 10:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a convenience store in the 800 block of Arlington Street for the report of a commercial robbery.
 
Responding officers located and arrested a male suspect at the scene.
 
It was learned that the suspect, armed and with his identity concealed had entered the store and demanded cigarettes.  The 59 year old clerk was able to lock herself away from the suspect and contacted police.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crime Unit.
 
Walter Darryl BITTERN 40 years of Winnipeg has been charged with several offences for his alleged involvement and was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

The Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit considers HOURIE to be a child in need of protection with investigators concerned for her well-being.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY - C13-197070
On Friday, September 27, 2013 at approximately 4:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a convenience store in the 600 block of Watt Street for the report of a commercial robbery.
 
Attending members met with the two store clerks who advised that an unknown armed male had entered the store, proceeded behind the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money. 
 
Neither clerk was injured during the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, late twenties, 5'10" tall with blonde hair.

MANITOBA OFFICERS IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR IAWP CONFERENCE

Currently, police members of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) are in attendance in Durban, South Africa for this year's Conference.
 
Today marks the one year countdown when the City of Winnipeg will play host to the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) 52nd Annual Training Conference set for September 28, 2014 to October 2, 2014.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON – C13-195778
On Wednesday, September 25, 2013 Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to the 500 block of Nova Vista Drive for the report of a suspicious person.
 
Responding officers met with the owner of a home day care who advised that while she and children in her care were in the back yard an unknown male came to the fence saying that he wanted to "keep the children company".  The male was scared off and police were summoned.
 
A search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful.
 
The male is described as: Caucasian, 60-70 years of age with a medium build and short grey hair and glasses.  He was wearing a grey t-shirt, khaki shorts, grey socks, runners, watch and a ring.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON – C13-196428
On Thursday, September 26, 2013 shortly before noon members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a school in the 800 block of Golspie Street for the report of a suspicious person.
 
The reporting person advised that an unknown male had been observed by students lingering across the street from the school.  The male did not say anything and the children were not approached.  He was last seen running away from the area.
 
Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
 
The male is described as wearing a black balaclava with blonde shoulder length hair sticking out the bottom.  He was wearing a black hoody or jacket, black pants and runners.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON – C13-196618
On Thursday, September 26, 2013 Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched for the report of a suspicious person.
 
Attending officers met with 4 children, three girls 10 & 9 years of age and a 9 year old boy.  The three girls related that at approximately 4:00 p.m. they had been in the area of Beeston Drive and Seaforth Avenue when an unknown male standing in the street began running after them.  They fled and came upon their 9 year old friend at which time they began to tell him what had just happened.  As they were talking the unknown male again appeared and began to chase all four of them.  The children fled and police were contacted by one of the children's' parents.
 
The male never spoke to the children and had never been seen by them before.
 
The suspect was not located and is described as appearing Caucasian, possibly tanned, early 20s, average height with a small build, long black hair and a dark beard.  He was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, light coloured pants and was carrying a white backpack.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – C13-196689
On Thursday, September 26, 2013 at approximately 5:45 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Brazier Street and Helmsdale Avenue for the report of an assault.

Attending members located a 32 year old female suffering from injuries sustained during an assault.  She was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Early investigation has revealed that the victim had been assaulted within a vehicle and then left in a back lane where she was observed by area residents who contacted police.

SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION                   C13-195552
At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 a serious motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Nairn Avenue and Grey Street.
 
A blue Jeep Liberty was travelling southbound on Grey Street approaching Nairn Avenue, when it is believed to have entered the intersection against a red traffic light.  The Jeep was struck on the driver's side by a westbound semi-truck.
 
The two occupants of the Jeep, the 72 year old male driver and the 71 year old female passenger were conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries.   The 65 year old male driver of the semi was not injured.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271.
 
 
THEFT INVESTIGATION ARREST                      C13-169525
As previously released on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, sometime between August 22nd and August 23rd, 2013, the Paddle Wheel Princess while docked at 55 Redwood Avenue in the City of Winnipeg was broken into and the ship's wheel (steering wheel) was removed and stolen.
 
The investigation led investigators to a residence in the 100 block of Machray Avenue where they located the stolen property and took the 31 year old male resident into custody yesterday.
 
The male has been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
MISCHIEF TO PROPERTY INVESTIGATION                C13-196018
On Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 East District general patrol members were dispatched to the report of damage to a bus shelter that had just occurred in the 200 block of Kildare Avenue West.
 
An older grey/silver mini-van was observed to be stopped near the bus shelter when it is believed a pellet gun was discharged at the bus shelter resulting in the window being damaged.   Further investigation has revealed that multiple bus shelters in the Transcona and East Kildonan areas also sustained similar damage.

OBSTRUCT PEACE OFFICER                 R13-68736
Over the past few months Peace Officers working in the capacity as photo enforcement operators have been obstructed in their abilities to perform their directed functions.
 
On Tuesday, September 25th, 2013 an individual who is a member of a well-known anti-photo enforcement advocacy group was arrested by members of the Winnipeg Police Traffic Unit. He was charged with 3 counts of Obstructing a Peace Officer and released on a Promise to Appear.

ARMED ROBBERY -  ARREST                      C13-195294
On Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at approximately 11:00 p.m., General Patrol members responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred in the area of Donald Street and Wardlaw Avenue.
 
Police were advised that a 28 year old male victim was walking on Donald Street when a van pulled up behind him. Three males exited the van.  One suspect, with his face covered by a bandana, confronted the victim with a weapon while the other two suspects went through the victim's pockets and stole various personal items. The males then fled in the van. The victim was not injured in the incident.
 
At approximately 11:40 p.m., General Patrol members responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred in the 1200 block of St Mary's Road. Police were advised 4 males had exited a dark coloured van and confronted 2 adult males and 2 male youths who were walking in the area. One of the suspects had his face covered by a bandana. A weapon was produced and the victims were robbed of various personal items.
 
At approximately 11:50 p.m. patrolling officers stopped a vehicle matching the suspect description in the area of St. Mary's Avenue and Eugenie Street. Four Adult males were taken into custody in relation to the above incidents where they remain in custody.
 
The investigation is on-going by members of the District 2 Crime Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-2842.
 
 
 
 
 SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION                      C13-195004
On Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police officers responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Archibald Street and Plinguet Street involving a commercial truck and an electric bicycle.
 
The driver of the bicycle, a 59 year old male, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Winnipeg emergency personnel are currently on scene at Nairn Avenue and Grey Street for a serious motor vehicle collision.  Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area if possible until further notice.
