Residential Parking Ban Lifted December 31, 2016 at 7 a.m.

City of Winnipeg Public Works

Residential Parking Ban lifted

The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted. The City of Winnipeg wishes to thank all Winnipeggers for their cooperation during the Residential Street Parking Ban.

The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. until March 1.

Missed residential streets
If some streets have been missed or only partially cleared, crews will return in the coming days to address outstanding snow clearing requirements. In the meantime, residents can park on their street since the residential parking ban only applied during the scheduled 12-hour period. When plowing crews return, no additional parking restrictions will be imposed. However, residents are still encouraged to move their vehicles should they notice that their street is about to be plowed.

News Release - Winnipeg Police Service

Winnipeg Police Service

Friday, December 23, 2016

Fraud Investigation – R16-95972
The Winnipeg Police Service Pawn Unit became aware of a series of suspicious transactions that had occurred on November 30, 2016, at a number of pawn shops and gold buyers within the City of Winnipeg. An investigation was undertaken, and as a result, it was determined that police in other Canadian cities were investigating similar incidents where a suspect pawned or sold counterfeit, one-ounce gold bars.

In Winnipeg, six bars were exchanged for an amount just less than $5,000. The bars were bearing either Perth Mint or PAMP(Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux – Switzerland) stamps.

An image of a similar bar and packaging is attached. The bar and the packaging appear to be very high-quality counterfeits.

The Winnipeg Police Service is cautioning that anyone contemplating purchasing a similar bar to take extra steps to ensure their authenticity.
