Winnipeg Police Service News Release

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- ARREST       C11-199939
On Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 just before 3:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service units were dispatched to a residence in the area of Niakwa Road and Pine Bluff Road after receiving reports of an injured female within the residence. 
 
Upon arrival officers and emergency services responders located an 84 year old female suffering from upper body injuries.  The victim was conveyed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. 
 
An adult female was taken into custody while inside the residence. 
 
Members of the Homicide Unit and the Identification Unit continued with this investigation.  The adult female has been charged with second degree murder. 
 
She has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. 
 
 
STABBING INVESTIGATIONS- ARRESTS   C11-200304
On Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 just after 11:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service received information that a 39 year old male had attended to downtown hospital suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. 
 
Uniform officers attended to the hospital and learned that approximately 11:00 p.m. victim and a 47 year old female were sitting in front of a building within the 500 block of Sherbrook Street when they were approached by two male suspects.  The suspects immediately demanded money from the victims, who refused.  One of the suspects produced an unknown object and stabbed the male victim in the upper body, and proceeded to steal some personal property from both victims before fleeing the area. 
 
The victims walked to hospital and police were contacted.  The 39 year old male victim remains in hospital and has been upgraded to stable condition.  The female victim was not injured.
  
At approximately 1:10 a.m. police units responded to a report of a male who was stabbed outside a hotel within the 600 block of Balmoral Street. 
 
Officers arrived and located a 51 year of male victim who had sustained a stab wound to his upper body.  This male was transported to the hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to critical- stable condition. 
 
Later this evening, within the same area, officers became aware of a separate incident involving a 31 year old male victim along with a 29 year old female, who were standing outside the hotel.  During this incident the female approached two males and requested a cigarette.  A brief conversation occurred resulting in the males physically assaulting the female victim.  When the male victim came to her aid, he was stabbed by the one of the male suspects.
 
Then just before 2:00 a.m. police and emergency services responders were dispatched to a residence with the 400 block of Agnes Street for a report of male that had attended to that location after being stabbed. 
 
The 32 year old male victim was in the area of Agnes Street and Ellice Avenue when he was approached by the two male suspects.  One of the suspects produced a knife and the victim was stabbed a number of times about the body. 
 
While tending to the 32 year old male victim, officers located a separate victim, a 23 year old female who had also been confronted by two male suspects and was stabbed. 
 
Both victims were transported to the hospital in unstable condition and have since been upgraded to stable condition.   
 
As a result of the efforts of numerous general patrol units, at approximately 2:10 a.m. patrolling Division 11 members located two suspect males standing in the area of Beverley Street and Ellice Avenue, where they were taken into custody without incident. 
 
Two male youths, aged 15 and 17 years, both of Winnipeg are currently in police custody and will be facing a number of charges serious charges. 
 
Detectives from the Division 11 Crime Unit are continuing with this investigation.
