Update - Homicide Arrest – C17-13701

Males Wanted:

As previously released -On January 19, 2017, at approximately 11:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street to check on the well-being of an individual at that location.

Upon entering the residence responding officers located a deceased adult male. He has been identified as 38 year old, Trenten Jeffrey BALONYK.

The investigation has revealed that the victim encountered 3 male suspects while at the Sherbrook Street location at which time he was seriously assaulted. As a result of the injuries sustained, he succumbed sometime later. 

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.

As a result, Brendan Bo SEVERIGHT, 24 years old was identified as a suspect and arrested on January 28, 2017. He has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, including several other weapon related matters due to his alleged involvement.

Arrest warrants for 1st Degree Murder have also been issued for the following two males in connection to the death of Trenton BALONYK:

 



Luke Blair MOAR (above), 31 years old, 5'9" tall and 210 pounds

 

 

   

Ryan Ralph FLETT, 25 years old, 6'1" tall and 150 pounds

Stabbing Investigations - Arrest - C17-0021744
Between January 13th and January 30th, 2017, emergency personnel responded to multiple stabbing incidents involving a male suspect, not known to the victims involved.

The incidents are as follows:

January 13th - 5:30 p.m. - 100 block of Princess Street - 20 year old male victim stabbed in the upper body & robbed of his phone.

January 18th - 2:30 p.m. - King Street & Rupert Avenue - 61 year old male victim stabbed in the upper body.

January 27th - 5:30 p.m. - 300 block of Donald Street - 28 year old male victim stabbed in the upper body & robbed of his phone.

January 30th - 6:30 p.m. - 300 block of Princess Street - 68 year old male & 56 year old male victims stabbed in upper body.

January 30th - 9:30 p.m. - 1st 100 block of Princess Street - 61 year old male stabbed upper body.

All of the victims involved were treated in hospital for numerous injuries in relation to being stabbed. They are in stable condition and recovering.

The investigations, led by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit determined that these were unprovoked attacks involving a male suspect.

On January 30, 2017, observant members of the Division 11 Community Support Unit located the suspect in the area of Adelaide Street and Elgin Avenue and placed him under arrest without incident.

Jesse Neil NEDOHIN, 21 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:

Aggravated Assault x 4
Possession of a Weapon x 5
Robbery x 2
Uttering Threats
14 additional charges in relation breaching his probation and failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance  

NEDOHIN was remanded into custody.

A large sum of money has recently been found in the south part of Winnipeg.  The Winnipeg Police Service is attempting to locate the rightful owner.  If the money belongs to you, or if you have information regarding the owner, please contact the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-2857. 
   
If you are claiming this money, you will be required to provide verification of ownership as determined by the Winnipeg Police Service. The Winnipeg Police Service will deduct all advertising expenses from the money located.   If the rightful owner is not determined by March 15th, 2017, the money will be disposed of as determined by the Service.

Serious Assault Update – Arrest: C17-17132
As previously released:
   
On January 24, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a report of a female who had been assaulted in the 1000 block of Sherburn Street.
   
Responding units located an adult female who was suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition, however, she has since been upgraded to stable. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.
   
At approximately 8:30 p.m. a male forced his way into a home on Buchannan Boulevard where he was able to steal a set of keys and a vehicle.
   
The West District Crime office had undertaken the investigation and on January 26, 2017, the male suspect was arrested.
   
Darcy STIRLING, 36-years-old, was charged with the following offences:
 - Aggravated Assault
 - Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public
 - Break and Enter
 - Drive Prohibited
   
Stirling was detained in custody.

Homicide Update– Arrest: C16-247965
Homicide investigators made an arrest yesterday in the murder of Theodoros Belayneh that occurred on November 26, 2016.
   
Paige Crossman, 23-years-old has been arrested and charged with the following offences:
   - First Degree Murder
   - Attempt Murder
   - Possess Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
   - Trafficking in a Controlled Substance
   - Possess Proceeds of Crime
   
The accused has been detained in custody.
   
As previously released:On November 26, 2016, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received reports of gunshots being heard in the area of Donald Street and Stradbrook Avenue. Responding officers discovered two males suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both males were transported to hospital in critical condition.
   
A 32-year-old male did not survive his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Theodoros BELAYNEH. He was a resident of Edmonton, Alberta. A second victim was also shot during the incident.

Robbery Arrest – C17-17568
On January 25, 2017, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a Weapon call at Garden City Collegiate at 711 Jefferson Avenue. Initial information was that a male, armed with a machete, assaulted a male youth inside the school.

A 16-year-old victim was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

Numerous police units assisted in this incident, including; School Resource, Tactical Support Team, General Patrol and the District 3 Crime Unit. As a result of their combined efforts, a 16-year-old male youth was arrested. He has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Assault with a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Probation

The accused was detained in custody.

Serious Assault Investigation – C17-17132

Utter Threats – Arrest: C17-16565
On January 23, 2016, Winnipeg Police were made aware of an online threat that had been made against West Kildonan Collegiate located at 101 Ridgecrest Avenue. An investigation was undertaken by officers from the West District.

As a result of this investigation, police arrested a 16-year-old male. He has been charged with Utter Threats and two counts of Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking. 
 

The accused was detained in custody.

Assault Investigations: C17-15766/C17-15807
On the evening of January 22, 2017, Winnipeg Police responded to two reports of individuals who had been assaulted with pepper spray in the North West area of the city.

The first incident occurred in 700 block of Sheppard Street. At approximately 9:20 p.m. the victim, an adult male in his thirties, answered the doorbell at his home. He was immediately sprayed in the face with what is believed to be pepper spray.

The victim was unable to provide a description of his attacker. It should be noted that at the time of the attack there were three children under five-years-old in the residence.

The adult victim, as well as the children, were treated in hospital and released.
The second assault occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue.

The victim, an adult male in his mid-thirties was in the parking lot of his apartment building when an unknown male suspect approached him asking for change. The suspect then pepper sprayed the victim in the face and attempted to further assault him, however, the victim was able to enter the apartment block and safely lock the doors.

The suspect in this incident is described as a male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 5'10" in height, approximately 20 – 30 years of age wearing a black jacket with a hoodie and neck warmer covering his face.

Investigators believe these two incident are potentially linked to the same suspect.

Update - Homicide – C17-13701

Homicide Investigation – Arrest - C16-265978
As previously released -On December 20, 2016, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident that just occurred in the area of the 400 block of Kennedy Street.

Officers located an adult male with serious injuries due to an apparent stabbing. The male victim was transported to the hospital by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. The victim has since succumbed to his injuries. 

The victim was identified as Clarence IGNACE, 25-years-old, of Winnipeg.

An arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder was issued for the arrest of Tyron Custer HARPER, 23-years-old, in connection with the murder. Public assistance was requested.

On January 20, 2017, HARPER was located and arrested by members of the Street Crimes Unit while in the area of the 500 block of St. Mary's Road.

HARPER was turned over to members of the Homicide Unit for further processing and remanded into custody.


Commercial Robbery – Public Assistance Requested - C16-266827
On December 22, 2016, at approximately 7:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a commercial robbery that just occurred at a gas bar located in the 1300 block of McPhillips Street.

A lone employee had been approached by a male suspect brandishing a knife who had attempted to gain entry to the building. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 50-year-old, 5'11" tall with a slim build and a short white beard.

Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the suspect male on right side of the pictures below.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 15 year old female, Jade BROWN.  BROWN was last seen on Thursday evening, January 12, in the Silver Heights area of St. James, in Winnipeg. 

BROWN is described as: fair/light complexion, 5'3" tall, slim build, with medium-length straight black hair and brown eyes.  She was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, grey sweat pants and tan Timberland boots.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for BROWN's well-being and is asking anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.

Commercial Robbery – C17-12996
On January 19, 2017, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a Commercial Robbery in the 500 block of Broadway.

Two suspects had entered a convenience store, accosted the lone clerk and stole a quantity of money. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm and discharged a weapon while fleeing the business. There were no reported injuries. A third suspect had remained outside.

Suspect 1. Male, approximately 5'6" in height with face covered.

Suspect 2. Male, approximately 5'6" in height with face covered, carrying a long-barreled firearm.

Suspect 3. Male, approximately 5'6" in height.

Update - Aggravated Assault Investigation - C17-0010270

Arrests made - Investigation continues

As previously released -On January 15, 2017 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a group of youth became involved in an argument with a 27 year old male passenger while travelling on a transit bus in the area of the South West Transit Corridor, near Stradbrook Avenue and Harkness Avenue.

In an unprovoked attack, the suspects stabbed the victim multiple times. Prior to fleeing, bear spray was discharged in the direction of the victim, including others riding on the bus at that time.

The victim was transported to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Members of the West District Crime Unit were notified and investigated.

Two male suspects have since been identified due to the assistance and support of Winnipeg Transit.

On January 17, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m., a 14 year old male, 16 year old male and 38 year old male were located in the 1400 block of Magnus Avenue and arrested.

It was also determined that the same males allegedly assaulted a 16 year old male with a knife and bear spray on January 17, 2017, while in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Salter Street. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

Members of the District 3 Crime Unit continued with this investigation.

Of note, the 38 year old male was allegedly involved in one incident in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Salter Street. The 14 and 16 year old, along with two other unidentified males were allegedly involved in the Stradbrook Avenue and Harkness Avenue incident. This investigation continues.

Motor Vehicle Collision - C17-0011985

Public Assistance Requested:

On January 17, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the crosswalk located southbound Main Street near Higgins Avenue for an injured adult female.

The 46 year old female was transported to hospital in critical condition. The investigation has determined that her injuries are as a result of being struck by an unknown vehicle(s).

The victim is described as an Aboriginal female, 5'2" tall, approximately 120 lbs. At the time of the collision, she was wearing blue fleece pajama pants with a white spotted design and utilizing a blue walker.  

The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.

Anyone with information regarding the collision or details that may assist in identifying the involved vehicle(s) is asked to contact investigators immediately at 204-986-6271.

Missing Person – Evan BRIGHTNOSE-BAKER  - R16-97269
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 17 year old male, Evan BRIGHTNOSE-BAKER.  BRIGHTNOSE-BAKER was last seen in late December, 2016, in the Waverley Heights area of Winnipeg.
   
BRIGHTNOSE-BAKER is described as Aboriginal, 5'4" tall, 120 pounds, thin build, short black hair and brown eyes. There is no clothing description available at this time. 
   
   
Police are concerned for BRIGHTNOSE-BAKER'S well-being and are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.
