FINANCIAL INSTITUTION - ROBBERY C12-36231
On February 28, 2012, at approximately 9:40 a.m., uniform patrol members responded to a financial institution located in the 100 block of Osborne Street regarding a robbery incident.
 
Attending members discovered that a customer had attended to the financial institution for the purpose of making a deposit. While doing so, the female was approached by an unknown male at which time he robbed her of an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled and no one was injured.
 
Officers searched the area however, the suspect was not located.
 
The suspect is described as:
 
·        Male, Caucasian, mid 20's to early 30's, 6'3"-6'4" tall with an average build.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
SUSPICIOUS PERSON C12-36332
Between February 26 and February 28, 2012, four, 9 year old females observed a suspicious vehicle and occupant driving in the area of the 1100 block of Autumnwood Drive.
 
Officers responded to the area and met with the complainants. It was discovered that a suspicious vehicle had been observed on multiple occasions where the occupant appeared to be watching the girls and possibly taking pictures of them while they played.
 
The suspect male never made contact with any of the children.
 
The suspect and vehicle is described as:
 
·        Male, dark complexion, approximately 40 years, long black/grey beard, wearing dark clothing and possibly in possession of a grey and black camera.
 
·        Operating an older model, dark red van.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON C12-36295
On February 28, 2012, at approximately 11:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Weston Street and Alexander Avenue regarding a suspicious vehicle and occupant.
 
Officers were advised that a 9 year old male had been walking in the area when he was approached by an unknown male in a vehicle. The suspect stopped near the child and asked him to get into the vehicle. The suspect remained inside the vehicle and the child ran home and notified a family member.
 
 The suspect and vehicle is described as:
 
·        Male, Black, 35 years of age, goatee, wearing a black toque.
 
·        Operating an older, red, 4 door car (similar to a Pontiac Grand Am), with rust around the wheel wells.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES C12-36028
On February 27, 2012, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received information from British Columbia RCMP regarding a 33 year old female in custody at the Vancouver Airport.
 
It was discovered that the female was intending to travel to Winnipeg to meet a male she had met online for the first time. After further discussions with the female, officials learned that the male and female had agreed to meet in person for the purpose of mutually harming themselves.
 
Officers were advised that the male was waiting for her to arrive, in a vehicle which contained a quantity of hazardous chemicals, outside the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.
 
Numerous police resources were dispatched to the area of the 1900 block of Wellington Avenue at which time the suspect vehicle containing a lone male occupant was located. At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers safely conducted a traffic stop and took the male into custody without incident.
 
A quantity of liquid chemicals were located in sealed containers and subsequently deemed safe by members of the Winnipeg Fire Department (HAZMAT).
 
The investigation has revealed that there was no intention to harm anyone else.  
 
Due to co-ordinated efforts by the RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service, the male and female were safely taken in custody and provided with the necessary support.
 
No charges are pending at this time.  
 
 
STABBING – ARRESTS – C12-360172
On February 28, 2012, at approximately 12:25 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the 600 block of Langside Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members have since learned that a drinking party had taking place, involving several occupants known to one another. At one point, an argument occurred which escalated to a physical altercation. A 19 year old male sustained multiple injuries consistent with being stabbed. A 39 year old female had been physically assaulted during the incident.
 
Two suspects, a 19 year old male and 22 year old male fled the area. Due to the efforts of attending members both males were located and taken into custody.
 
All injured parties are in stable condition.
 
Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit are continuing to investigate.

MISSING PERSON – Toni Rose LINKLATER C12-33953
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 14 year old female, Toni Rose LINKLATER.
 
LINKLATER was last seen on February 24, 2012 at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the south end area of Winnipeg.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service considers LINKLATER to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
 
 
LINKLATER is described as: Caucasian, 5'9" tall, 170 lbs, shoulder length golden brown hair with bangs. She was last seen wearing a black sweater, black leggings, and black boots.
 
Anyone with information regarding LINKLATER's whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

ASSAULT INVESTIGATION – C12-23483
On February 7, 2012, at approximately 10:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received information regarding an assault that occurred in the area of Balmoral Street and Sargent Avenue.  
 
Attending members met with several witnesses who advised that while driving in the area they came across several suspects assaulting what appeared to be a female victim. The assault consisted of the victim being pushed to the ground and kicked by multiple suspects. 
 
Police were summoned however the suspects, including the victim fled the area.
 
Witness information suggests that there were a total of five suspects present. Three of the suspects are described as follows:
 
1 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, 15 years, 5'10" tall, stocky build, dark hair with a short ponytail, wearing a dark jacket past the her waist, light grey sweat pants and white socks.
 
2 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, younger than suspect 1 (approx. 12 years), round face, fair complexion, small build, black hair, wearing a shinny black jacket waist length, fur around the hood and dark pants.
 
3 - Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 18 years of age, 5'8"- 5'10" tall, slim build, wearing a hoodie and dark clothing.
 
The victim is described as: a female wearing a red jacket.
 
Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit are continuing to investigate and are requesting the victim to come forward and make a formal report to police.

ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER – ARRESTS C12-35012
On February 26, 2012, at approximately 3:20 a.m., uniform patrol members were responding to a call for service westbound Portage Avenue near Berry Street, when a male ran into the roadway directly in the path of the cruiser car. As a result, the officer was forced to take evasive action in order to avoid a serious collision. While stopped, a male suspect approached the cruiser car and began yelling and swearing at the officers. The male suddenly attempted to assault the officer with a punching motion through the open car window. After narrowly missing the officer, the male proceeded to damage the passenger side of the cruiser car.
 
Due to the actions of the male suspect, officers deployed an electronic control device at which time he was safely taken into custody. While managing the suspect, a 20 year old female confronted the arresting officers by yelling and swearing at them. The female refused to comply with repeated requests by officers which resulted in her arrest.
 
The 19 year old male suspect continued to be belligerent towards officers throughout processing. He is facing the following charges:
 
·        Assault Peace Officer
·        Utter Threat to cause Death or Bodily Harm x 2
·        Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer
·        Mischief Under $5000.00
 
The 20 year old female is facing the following charges:
 
·        Obstruct Justice
·        Cause Disturbance
 
They were released. 
 
 
UTTER THREATS INVESTIGATION C12-33531
On February 23, 2012, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of Riverton Avenue and Brazier Street regarding a threat made toward a 12 year old female victim.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim had been walking in the area when she was approached by an unknown male suspect. It was at this time the suspect threatened to harm the victim if she did not comply with his demands. The suspect took hold of the victim however she was able to break free and run to a nearby building.  
 
The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as:
 
·        Male
·        Black
·        In his 30's
·        Goatee
·        5'7"-5'8" tall
·        Heavy/large build
·        Bald
·        Wearing: a green plain jersey with yellow sleeves
·        Black sweat pants
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

ROBBERY INVESTIGATION- UPDATE ARRESTS   C12-33726
As previously released, on February 24th, 2012 at approximately 4:45 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of Broadway Avenue and Langside Street for a report of assault that had occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers located an injured 29 year old male. Paramedics transported the male to the hospital in critical condition with upper body injuries.
 
A number of police units, including a canine unit converged into the area. Officers attended to an apartment block within the 200 block of Young Street where a second injured male was located. This male youth was transported to the hospital in critical condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
Division 11 Detectives continued with the investigation and learned that the 29 year old male victim, along with a 23 year old female were walking together in the area of Broadway Avenue and Langside Street when they were approached by two males, aged 15 and 18 years. Both males then concealed their identities and demanded the victim's property. The victims refused to turn over their property and a physical altercation ensued.
 
During the altercation, the 29 year old victim was able to overpower the 18 year old suspect who received injuries to his upper body. During this time, the 15 year old suspect produced a knife and struck the 23 year old female victim in the upper body and then stabbed the 29 year old male victim in upper body, causing him to collapse in the roadway.
 
Both suspects fled the area and passing motorists notified police. The 23 year old female victim was treated on scene while the 29 year old male victim was transported to the hospital.  
 
Responding police members, with the assistance of a canine unit, located both suspects in a residence within the 200 block of Young Street. Paramedics transported the 18 year old male suspect to the hospital to be treated for injuries to his upper body. 
 
No property was obtained from the victim's during the incident.
 
As a result of the actions of numerous units, including Identification officers, Cadets, Uniform members and Detectives, a 15 year old male youth and an 18 year old male are both facing two counts of Robbery with a weapon, disguise with intent as well as failing to comply with their respective court orders. 
 
Both males have been detained in custody. 
 
 
COMMERICAL ROBBERIES- ARRESTS        C12-34167
On February 24th, 2012 members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the following incidents involving a 25 year old male suspect who;
At approximately 3:30 p.m., attended to a retail store in the area of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Dakota Street where he proceeded to steal assorted merchandise with an estimated value of $200.00.  When confronted by an employee the suspect implied he had a firearm, threatened the employee and fled the store with the stolen goods.
 
At approximately 3:45 p.m., attended to an electronics store within the 1600 block of Pembina Highway where he gathered merchandise valued at $150.00 and exited the store.  When the suspect was confronted he indicated he had a gun and threatened the employee before fleeing the store with the merchandise.
 
At approximately 7:45 p.m., attended to a gas station located within the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue where he stole assorted cigarettes and fled the scene.
 
Then at approximately 8:00 p.m. the 25 year old male suspect, along with a 28 year old male suspect attended to a hotel vendor in the area of the 1700 block of Portage Avenue where they attempted to leave without paying for multiple cases of beer. Both were confronted by an employee at which time the 25 year old male suspect implied he had a firearm and threatened the clerk. The suspects fled empty handed. 
 
At approximately 9:15 p.m. both suspects attended to hotel vendor within the area of the 2100 block of Main Street where they stole approximately $100 worth of merchandise and fled the store. 
 
No injuries were sustained in any of these incidents. 
 
Alert patrolling Division 13 uniform members observed a suspect vehicle fleeing the area. The vehicle was stopped in the area of the Chief Peguis Trail and Main Street where both male suspects were taken into custody without incident. An assortment of stolen property was located within the vehicle.   
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit the following charges have been laid against these males for their alleged involvement in these incidents: 
 
Stephen Bartholomew EGESZ, 28 years of no fixed address
-       Robbery With Weapon
-       Theft Under
 
Darrell James WORKS, 25 years of Winnipeg
-       Robbery With Weapon X 2
-       Robbery
-       Disguise With Intent
-       Theft Under X 2
 
Both males have been detained in custody. 
 
 
STABBING- ARREST                              C12-34308
On February 25th, 2012 at approximately 1:35 a.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to a suite within an apartment block in the area of Balmoral Street and Ellice Avenue for a report of a male that had been stabbed. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 32 year old male with a stab wound to his upper body. A number of individuals were also inside the suite, including a 42 year old male who was taken into custody without incident. 
 
The male victim was transported to the hospital in unstable condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
At this stage in the investigation, officers have learned that individuals had been socializing within the suite when an altercation occurred between the two males resulting the 32 year old male being stabbed. 
 
Charges are expected to be laid against the 42 year old male currently in police custody.  
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.    
 
 
GROW OPERATION- ARREST                           R12-18881
On February 23rd, 2012, after a lengthy investigation, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit, assisted by members of the Tactical Support Team, executed a controlled drug and substance act search warrant at a residence within the 100 block of Park Grove Drive.
 
Inside a large marihuana grow-operation was located and an adult male was taken into custody without incident. The following has been seized:
 
-       Approximately 690 marihuana plants, with an estimated value of $774,000
-       Approximately $20,000 in grow- operation equipment
 
A 50 year old male from Winnipeg, has been released to appear in court at a later date, and will be facing the following charges:
 
-       Theft of telecommunications – over (hydro)
-       Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA)
-       Production of controlled substance - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA)

On Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public's assistance in locating a missing 21 year old female, Norma ANDREWS.

ANDREWS has been safely located.

PROJECT DEPLETE- UPDATE ARREST
As previously released, on February 3rd, 2012, the Manitoba Integrated Organized Crime Task Force (MIOCTF), along with over 80 police officers, made numerous arrests and conducted searches as part of a long-term investigation known as Project DEPLETE.   
 
On February 24th, 2012, with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service Tactical Support Team, officers from the Manitoba Integrated Organized Crime Task Force arrested David Thomas, 29 years in Winnipeg. 
 
All outstanding individuals have now been located.

STOLEN VEHICLE- ARRESTS                 C12-33055
On February 23rd, 2012 at approximately 2:30 a.m. a patrolling East District police unit observed a stolen vehicle proceeding southbound on Lagimodiere Boulevard at Dugald Road. 
 
A number of police units including the canine unit and Air1 responded to the area to assist. In a coordinated effort lead by the tactical flight officer in Air1 the stolen Ford Escort was located within the 1400 block of Regent Avenue West. After a brief foot chase all suspects were taken into custody without incident.   
 
A 16 year old male and 17 year old male were detained in custody, while four females, aged 14, 16, 18 and 19 years were released to appear in court at a later date. 
 
They are all facing one count of possession of goods obtained by crime.
