MISSING PERSON –  CRYSTAL JESSOPS-CONTOIS     C14-63758

 
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 40-year-old female, Crystal JESSOPS-CONTOIS.
 
JESSOPS-CONTOIS was last seen in the area of the William Avenue and Sherbrook Street on Friday March 28, 2014 at 11:10 a.m.   She was in possession of a wheelchair. 

 

 
JESSOPS-CONTOIS  is described as Aboriginal, 5'8" tall, approximately 130 pounds, with long brown hair (possibly in a ponytail) and hazel eyes.
 
Police are concerned for her well being. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION-ARREST            C14-14146
As previously released, on January 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 200 block of Andrews Street for the report of an injured male.
 
Upon arrival officers located the victim Justin DESMARAIS, 24 years, deceased within the home.
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, it is believed that the deceased and a male known to him were involved in a physical altercation within the residence on January 18, 2013.
 
The cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma to the upper body.
  
A suspect was identified as Justin Atelard CATCHEWAY, 30 years-old and a Canada-Wide Warrant for 2nd Degree Murder was obtained.  As efforts to locate CATCHEWAY had met with negative results, police had requested the public's assistance in locating him.
 
On March 28, 2014 at approximately 6:30 p.m. CATCHEWAY was taken into custody without incident in the 400 block of Kennedy Street by members of the Tactical Support Team. 
 
He has been detained in custody.
 
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN    C14-65223
On March 31, 2014 at approximately 1:10 a.m. emergency services personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Regent Avenue and Stapon Road for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, a 45-year-old male, who had sustained serious lower body injuries.  He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
 
Central Traffic Unit members were called out to assist with the investigation. 
 
The involved vehicle, a taxi cab, was being operated by a 60-year-old male and had been travelling east bound on Regent Avenue approaching the intersection of Stapon Road when the victim was struck by the vehicle. 
 
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
 
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Central Traffic Unit investigators at (204) 986-6271. 
 
 
SUSPICIOUS MALES AND VEHICLE           C14-63409
Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance regarding an investigation involving two suspicious males and a vehicle.
 
On March 28th, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m. an 11-year-old female was walking with a friend, in the Valley Gardens area of the city.  A vehicle pulled up in front of the two females and two unknown males exited the vehicle, waiting for the females to approach. 
 
The two females immediately fled the area and police were contacted. 
 
The suspicious males and vehicle were seen in the area for a short time after and are described as:
 
Suspect #1 – Caucasian male, in his 40's, approximately 5'6" – 5'8" tall, with a muscular build and greyish/ blond short hair.  He was wearing a black jacket.
 
Suspect #2 – Caucasian male, with a thin build and wearing sunglasses.
 
Suspect Vehicle – Newer red coloured four-door car

ATTEMPT ABDUCTION                                  R14-22759
On March 29, 2014 shortly after 10:00 p.m. a 17-year-old female was walking in the area of Sterling Avenue and Homewood Drive when a car with three male occupants approached her.  The male passenger offered her a ride home, which the victim ignored and kept walking. 
 
The vehicle then continued on, turned around and approached the victim again. The passenger exited the vehicle, grabbed the victim by the arm and demanded that she get into the car. The victim managed to break free and run away. 
 
The vehicle is described as a 2-door blue Pontiac Sunfire.
 
The suspicious males are described as:
 
Suspect #1: Caucasian male, approximately 20 years, with blonde hair.  He was wearing a toque and a dark jacket.
 
Suspect #2 (passenger): Caucasian male, approximately 20 years, 5'10"- 6'0" tall with a skinny build and brown hair.  He was wearing a black jacket.
 
Suspect #3:  No description

SHOTS FIRED                                           C14-65276
On March 31, 2014 shortly after 4:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a residence within the 500 block of Seven Oaks Avenue for reports of shots being fired. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located property damage consistent with a firearm being discharged.
 
There were no reported injuries.
 
No suspect information is available.

Commercial Robbery                                                    C14-64118
 
On March 29, 2014 at approximately 11:50 A.M a lone male suspect entered a convenience store in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.  Once inside, he walked around the store and gathered some assorted items.  He then attended to the cashier where he produced a knife and stole an amount of cash from the register and fled the area.
 
The cashier was not injured and the suspect is described as:
 
Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 5'7 – 5'8, Average build, tan skin and was wearing a black toque, black winter jacket, black sweat pants and black shoes with white trim.
 
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
 
Robbery                                                                          C14-64200
 
On March 29, 2014 at approximately 2:40 P.M the victim was walking in the area of Sargent Avenue and Sherbrook Street.  The suspect grabbed the victim's purse from behind and took off running.  Two bystanders pursued the suspect however ceased when the suspect brandished a gun and pointed it at them.  The suspect then fled the area.  The suspect is described as:
 
Male, Aborginal in appearance, approximately 20 years old,5'6 – 5'10 with a medium build thin mustache wearing a grey sweater.
 
The Division 11 Crime Unit is investigating.

The Winnipeg Police Service continues to request the public's assistance in locating a 23 year-old male, Dwight John STEVENSON.
 
Currently, there are two outstanding warrants of arrest for STEVENSON in relation to an aggravated assault investigation in October 2013.
 
Fail to attend court
Fail to comply with conditions of a recognizance
 
STEVENSON is described as: Aboriginal, 5'9" tall, 146 lbs., medium build, straight black hair and brown eyes.

SUSPICIOUS MALES AND VEHICLE   C14-62351
On March 26, 2014 at approximately 2:45 p.m., two unknown males were observed between Riverton Avenue and Talbot Avenue watching several children at play.
 
The males were observed smoking outside their vehicle when they began taking pictures of two 11 year-old females in the playground. No contact was made and no injuries occurred.
 
The suspects and vehicle are described as follows:
 
Suspect 1 (Driver) – Caucasian, male, 40-50 years-old, 5'8" tall, average build, greying/blonde hair wearing: blue jeans and a beige coloured winter jacket with a white coloured wool collar
 
Suspect 2 (Passenger) – Caucasian, male, 40-50 years-old, 5'10" tall, wearing: a dark coloured hat and a beige coloured winter jacket with a white coloured wool collar
 
Suspect vehicle – Newer red coloured four-door car, similar to a Chevrolet Impala

SUSPICIOUS PERSONS   C14-62630
On March 27, 2014 at approximately 3:25 p.m., a 12 year-old male was walking eastbound on Sargent Avenue near Erin Street when he was confronted by an unknown male and female.
 
The suspects asked the 12 year-old where he was going and began reaching out toward him. No contact was made and the 12 year-old fled to his school notifying staff.
 
The suspects are described as:
 
Male suspect – Aboriginal in appearance, 32 years-old, 5'5" tall, medium build, short black hair, and moustache, wearing: a black sweater and black sweatpants
 
Female suspect - Aboriginal in appearance, 29 years-old, 5'0" tall, slim build, shoulder length black hair, wearing: a black sweater

SERIOUS ASSAULT INVESTIGATION   C14-43973
On March 1, 2014 at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers responded to a hotel beverage room located in the 700 block of Maryland Street regarding a fight involving two male suspects.
 
Attending members located a 60 year-old male victim with serious upper body injuries.
 
Investigators are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the suspects involved.
 
Suspect 1 – Male, in his 20's, short dark hair, wearing: a dark jacket, blue t-shirt with "Playa" written on the front

   
 
 Suspect 2 – Male, in his 20's, wearing a dark toque and dark clothing
 
 
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477). 
 
 
MISCHIEF TO PROPERTY INVESTIGATION   C14-32629
On February 14, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a hotel located in the 700 block of Maryland Street regarding two males fighting which resulted in property damage.
 
The investigation has revealed that two males became involved in a verbal altercation which resulted in one of the males assaulting the other male with a beer bottle. While doing so, a near-by food warmer was heavily damaged.
 
The suspect involved (below) is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 200 lbs., 5'10" tall, short dark hair wearing: a black jacket and blue jeans. He was also observed to have a scar on his cheek.

 
 

 
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477). 
 
 
MALE SHOT   C14-62007
On March 26, 2014 at approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Young Street and Sargent Avenue as a result of shots fired.
 
The investigation has revealed that several males had become involved in a dispute which escalated into a physical altercation. One of the males involved produced a firearm and discharged it in the direction of a 20 year old male striking him in the upper body.
 
The victim fled to hospital where he later met with police. He has since been released, however is not forthcoming with information regarding the incident.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477). 
 
 
GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS   R14-18035
On March 25, 2014 at approximately 2:35 p.m., members of the Marihuana Grow Operation Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Patrol members executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a residence located in the 1900 block of Elgin Avenue.
 
Two adult males were arrested at the time. A third adult male was arrested on March 26, 2014 at a location on Burrows Avenue.
 
A search of the residence revealed the following items seized by officers:
 
235 Marihuana plants – estimated street value $263,200.00
Grow operation equipment – valued at $6000.00
 
A 61 year-old male, 53 year-old male and 48 year-old male were released on a Promise to Appear and are facing the following charges:
 
Possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking - marihuana
Produce a scheduled substance - marihuana

WPS BASKETBALL TEAM HOOPS IT UP AT ARTHUR A LEACH SCHOOL
 
Today, at 2:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Basketball Team will be taking on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a friendly basketball game at Arthur A Leach School located at 1827 Chancellor Drive.
 
Every year our team made up of Constables, Patrol Sergeants, Inspectors and our Chief of Police, Devon Clunis, go out and play Varsity basketball teams as part of our "Respect in Sport" initiative. This year we have already played at Sisler High School, Miles MacDonnell Collegiate, Technical Vocational School, King's School, Elmwood High School, Grant Park High School and West St. Paul School, to name a few.
 
Our connection and interaction with the students is not only fun and entertaining, but an opportunity for a positive relationship with the school community helping to bridge the gap between police and the students.
 
Members of the media are welcome to attend, however the school is closed to the public.

INDECENT ACT INVESTIGATION   C14-46025
On February 26, 2014 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a 23 year old female employee was on a break while working at a mall in the Polo Park area. It was at this time she encountered an unknown male who approached her on more than one occasion.
 
At the conclusion of her break, the female attended to a nearby escalator making her way to the second floor. While on the escalator, the same male continued to follow the female, standing close behind. The female attempted to created distance between them, however the male persisted. While still on the escalator, the suspect was observed holding a smartphone and video recording the female victim under her skirt.
 
The male was confronted and he eventually fled the area.
 
The suspect is described as: Dark complexion, 20-21 years-old, 5'11" tall, medium build, 160-170 lbs. and short black curly hair. He was wearing a dark hoody and white shirt underneath. Based on conversations, English may be the suspect's second language.

STABBING INVESTIGATION   C14-61520
On March 26, 2014 at approximately 4:00 a.m., WPS and WFPS members responded to a business located in the 1300 block of Main Street regarding a stabbing incident involving multiple victims.
 
Upon arrival, male victims were located and observed to have sustained injuries consistent with being stabbed. They are in stable condition.
 
The victims entered the business after sustaining their injuries at which time emergency services was notified.  
 
No arrests have been made at this time.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating 14 year-old male, Tyrus MANN. MANN was last seen in the North End area of Winnipeg on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
 
MANN is described as: Aboriginal, 5'6" tall, approximately 190 lbs., large build with short black hair and brown eyes. MANN was last seen wearing black pants, black jacket with a black hat.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for his well-being.

WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE MEMBER CHARGED
In June 2013, the Winnipeg Police Service Professional Standards Unit began a criminal investigation into the conduct of a Winnipeg Police Service member.

Following a lengthy investigation, and in consultation with Manitoba Justice, criminal charges have been laid against a member of the Winnipeg Police Service.

Constable Remi VAN DEN DRIESSCHE, 39 years, an eight year member, has been charged with Sexual Assault, Breach of Trust x2, Extortion x2, and Criminal Harassment x4.  The allegations involve on and off duty conduct.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is presently on administrative leave pending a review to determine his employment status.
