Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Monday, September 19th, 2011 

 
SHOOTING C11-198174
On September 19th, 2011, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue regarding a firearm discharge.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that a group of individuals had been walking southbound on Carlton Street near Portage Avenue when a firearm discharge took place. A 28 year old male and a 30 year old female were struck in the lower body and subsequently conveyed to hospital. Both victims are listed in stable condition.
 
Investigators are currently exploring the possibility that a vehicle may have been involved.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).   
 
 
ARSON ARREST C11-198113 C11-198134
On September 18th, 2011, at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were advised of a working bin fire in a parking lot located in the 900 block of Summerside Avenue.
 
The fire was extinguished and damage is estimated at $1000.00.
 
On September 19th, 2011, at approximately 12:25 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a second bin fire in the area of the 2600 block of Pembina Highway. Again, the fire was extinguished and damage is estimated at $1000.00.
 
Uniform members including members of the Canine Unit attended to the area. Officers made contact with a 15 year old female suspect in the area of Mapleridge Avenue who was still in possession of flammable material.
 
The suspect was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges: Arson – Damage to Property x 2 and Possession Incendiary Material. She was released on a Promise to appear.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Arson Strike Force.   
 
 
SERIOUS ASSAULT C11-186396
As previously released, on September 3rd, 2011 at approximately 7:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 500 block of Sherbrook Street regarding an injured female.
 
The investigation has revealed that the female was the victim of a serious physical assault. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service are investigating the possibility that a sexual assault also took place. The victim sustained significant injuries to her upper body.
 
The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics in unstable condition. She has since been released.
 
No suspect information is available at this time.
 
Investigators from the Sex Crimes Unit are continuing with this investigation. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
