Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Sunday, September 18th, 2011 

 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C11-197066
On September 17th, 2011 at approximately 4:25 p.m., members of the District 2 Community Support Unit, while patrolling in the area of Portage Avenue and Minto Street, observed a Chrysler Cirrus being operated in an erratic manner.
 
It was at this time officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however the driver of the suspect vehicle made every effort to evade police.
 
The suspect vehicle was subsequently stopped in the area of the 300 block of Arlington Street when one officer approached the vehicle on foot. As the officer approached, the suspect vehicle was put into reverse causing the officer to jump backwards in order to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle struck the parked cruiser car which had been occupied by the second officer. No injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.
 
After colliding with the cruiser car, the suspect fled the area at a high rate of speed having no regard for public safety.
 
Due to the actions of the suspect, a civilian vehicle was struck in the area of Portage Avenue and Burnell Street. No injuries were sustained. The suspect then fled from the scene of the collision, continuing at a high rate of speed. Officers following closely located the suspect parked in the area of the 300 block of Burnell Street at which time he was taken into custody.
 
Adam Michael REDCLIFFE, 36 years has been charged with the following: Assault with a Weapon x 2, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police Officer, Drive without a licence, Fail to Comply with Conditions of a Recognizance.
 
REDCLIFFE was also wanted on four outstanding warrants.
 
He was detained.  
 
  
FIRE C11-197255
On September 17th, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m., emergency services responded to a working fire at a business/residence located in the 800 block of Stella Avenue.
 
The fire was extinguished and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
Damage is estimated at $500,000.00.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force are continuing with the investigation.
 
 
BOMB UNIT DISPATCHED – C11-196985
On September 17th, 2011, at approximately 1:55 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of a possible explosive device which had been located at a residence in the St. Boniface area of the city.
 
The investigation has revealed that while cleaning a family member's home, occupants located what appears to be a "practise aircraft bomb." Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Bomb Unit were notified and attended. The residence was evacuated and the bomb was safely removed.
 
The investigation is continuing regarding the nature of the device and its origin.
