Winnipeg Police Service News Release

MANITOBA POLICE AND PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL SERVICE
 
Today at 11:00 a.m. the Manitoba Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Service will be held at the Manitoba Legislature Grounds (south side). 
 
This year's Police and Peace Officer's Memorial will include law enforcement officers, alongside members of federal and provincial corrections and the Canada Border Services Agency to honour fallen officers.
 
This event held annually in Winnipeg, mirrors the National Memorial Service that has been held in Ottawa for the past 34 years.  In 1998, the federal government officially proclaimed the last Sunday of each September as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. 
 
The following representatives will be attendance at today's service: 
 
-          The Honourable Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba
-          The Honourable Andrew Swan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Province of Manitoba
-          Councillor Paula Havixbeck, Acting Deputy Mayor, City of Winnipeg
-          Winnipeg Police Service Chief of Police Keith McCaskill
-          Assistant Commissioner Bill Robinson, Royal Canadian Mounted Police
-          Mr. Marc Pellerin, President, Manitoba Police Association
-          Correctional Officer William Whyte, Provincial Corrections
-          Warden Robert Bonnefoy, Federal Corrections
 
Members of the public and the media are invited to attend this service.
