MISSING PERSON- ROBERT EVANS            C11-160051
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 74 year old year old male, Robert EVANS.  Investigators are concerned for his well being.
 
EVANS was last seen Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at approximately 6:30 p.m. standing near a bus stop in the area of Watt Street and Bowman Avenue.   
 
 
EVANS is described as white, 5'5 to 5'7" tall, approximately 130 pounds,  with grey balding short hair and possibly wearing eyeglasses. He was last seen wearing a grey collared t-shirt and jeans.  
 
Anyone with information regarding EVANS's whereabouts is asked to contact the Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

SERIOUS ASSAULT INVESTIGATION        C11-159689
On Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to an apartment within the 300 block of Kennedy Street for a report of an injured male. 
 
Upon arrival, officers and emergency services responders located an adult male within a suite who appeared to have been assaulted. 
 
Paramedics transported the 27 year old victim to the hospital in critical condition, where he remains.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.  Interviews are being conducted at this time.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating 38 year old missing female, Miranda MENOW.  She has not been seen since July 22nd, 2011 and investigators are concerned for her well being.
  
                                
                                   
 
She is described as Aboriginal, 5'0" tall, approximately 130 pounds, with a fair complexion, long straight black hair and brown eyes.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Thursday, July 28th, 2011

11:00 a.m.
 
MALE SHOT                                 C11-157768
On Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at approximately 4:40 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a restaurant within the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue for a report of a male that had been shot. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 20 year old male suffering from a gun shot wound to the upper body area.  Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital in unstable condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
At this point in the investigation it is believed that the victim and another male were walking in the area when they were confronted by 3 male suspects.  A verbal confrontation occurred between the two groups and one of the suspects produced a handgun and shot in the direction of the victim. 
 
An area search and subsequent track by the Canine Unit resulted in a firearm being located nearby. 
 
The Major Crimes Unit is continuing with this investigation. Anyone who has information regarding this incident or the suspects is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8744).
 
 
ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER- ARREST     C11-157236
On Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform members responded to the area of Ellice Avenue and Edmonton Street for a report that an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer was requesting assistance as a Downtown Watch Member that had just been assaulted.
 
Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect male was taken into custody as a result of the efforts of the Downtown Watch member as well as citizens who came to assist.  The 27 year old Biz Patrol member had been tending to an intoxicated person within the area when he was confronted by the suspect male, who proceeded to physically assault the member in the upper body.   
 
Marc Marcel ZURAWELL, 31 years of Winnipeg has been charged with assault peace officer and possessing a controlled drug or substance- cannabis (marihuana), for his alleged involvement in this incident. 

ZURAWELL has been detained in custody. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERIES- ARREST     C11-157457
On July 27th, 2011, just after 8:30 p.m. a number of Winnipeg Police Service Units attended to the area of Gallagher Avenue and Blake Street for reports of a male seen with a gun.  As a result of the efforts of officers from the Tactical, Street Crime, Canine and Uniform Units a suspect male was located in the area of McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue without incident.  A shotgun has been recovered.
 
Major Crimes Unit detectives continued with the investigation and the same suspect male is also believed to be responsible for the following commercial robberies: 
 
-          July 15th, 2011 at approximately 4:20 a.m. a convenience store within the 1st 100 block of Keewatin Street
-          July 27th, 2011, at approximately 2:45 a.m. a convenience store within the 1200 Jefferson Avenue. 
 
In both instances, a lone male suspect, with his identity concealed and while armed with a shot gun, entered the businesses and demanded and received cash and cigarettes.  There were no injuries were reported in either incident.   
 
Jordan David Vincent COOK, 20 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement into these incidents: 
 
- Robbery with Firearm x 2
- Wear Disguise x 2
- Possess Prohibited Weapon
- Possess Weapon while Prohibited
- As well as 18 other firearms related offences
 
COOK has been detained in custody.
  
OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING- UPDATE ARREST    C11-152220
As previously released, on Thursday, July 21st, 2011 just after 2:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of St Marys Road and Guay Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery of a 31 year old cab driver by a male suspect armed with a knife. 
 
Two responding uniform members, with 12 and 13 years of service, located a suspect at which time a confrontation took place.  As a result, a firearm discharge occurred, striking the suspect.
 
The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
No one else was injured during this incident.
 
As a result of the continued investigation, on Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 John Junior CHARLETTE, 27 years of Winnipeg has been charged with following offences for his alleged involvement into this incident:
 
-          Assault with a weapon X2
-          Assault a peace officer X2
-          Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm X2
-          Warrant of arrest for Robbery with a weapon, possess weapon for dangerous purpose and failing to comply condition of recognizance X2 
-          Two outstanding arrest warrants (offence dates: April 29th, and May 24th, 2011)
 
CHARLETTE has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

KICKING' IT WITH CADETS
Since Nov 21st, 2010, the Winnipeg Police Service Cadets have been actively engaging community partners and the public as part of their mandate to build a safer community through visual presence and building positive relationships.
 
The Cadet Section is leading an afternoon soccer game with children in Central Park called "Kicking it with Cadets". The Cadets have partnered with Central Neighborhoods' Development Organization, Downtown Biz, West End Biz and the Exchange Biz to host this event.

SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION  C11-154762
On Sunday, July 24th, 2011 at approximately 5:30 a.m., a 15 year old female victim was walking in the area of Pritchard Avenue and Aikins Street when she was approached by a male suspect riding a black mountain bike. The suspect came up behind the victim and grabbed her and began to choke her. 
 
The victim was then taken into a nearby lane and was sexually assaulted. The suspect proceeded to take some of the victim's property as well as a cell phone and then fled the area on the bike. 
 
Police were contacted and entered into an investigation. A sketch of the suspect male has been composed.


 
Suspect is described as:
  • Male, Aboriginal in appearance, in his early 20's
  • Short blonde hair
  • Wearing a black and red checked hoodie, baggy blue jeans and black high-top runners
 Investigators from the Division 13 Crime Unit are continuing with this investigation. Anyone who has information is asked to 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
 COMMERICAL ROBBERY         C11-156682
On July 26th, 2011 at approximately 7:45 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to a pharmacy within the 1000 of Grant Avenue for a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Upon arrival officers learned that one lone male while armed with a knife attended to a cash register area and took an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was last seen leaving the scene in a minivan or sport utility vehicle. 
 
The suspect is described as:
Male, Caucasian, approximately 6'0" tall with long shaggy hair. He was wearing a dark coloured jacket dark with sunglasses
 
No one was injured during this incident.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
 
COMMERICAL ROBBERY        C11-156693
On July 26th, 2011 just after 8:20 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members were dispatched to a commercial robbery at a retail store within the 1700 block of Kenaston Boulevard. Officers had learned that a suspect male attended to the register area and approached the 19 year old female cashier and demanded and received money. 
 
The suspect is described as:
Male, Caucasian, approximately 18 to 21 years of age, 6'4" tall, approximately 190 pounds with medium length dark hair that appeared to have been dyed. He was wearing a dark coloured hoodie, jeans and sunglasses. 
 
There were no reported injuries.
 
The investigation is continuing. 
 
  
COMMERICAL ROBBERY        C11-156704
On July 26th, 2011 at approximately 8:40 p.m. a lone male suspect attended to a retail store within the 1000 block of Bishop Grandin Boulevard where he approached an 18 year old female cashier and attempted to make a purchase. Once the cash register was opened the suspect demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The suspect was last seen leaving the scene in a sport utility vehicle.
 
The suspect is described as:
Male, Caucasian, approximately 20 years, over six feet tall with a thin build, and long black hair. He was wearing a dark hoodie or jacket, dark pants and sunglasses. 
 
No one was injured.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

RYDMAN is described as white, 5'7", 128lbs, balding grey hair, blue eyes, wearing grey pants, blue sweat shirt, and black shoes. 
 
RYDMAN was last seen on July 19th in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan driving a brown, 4 door, 2007 Saturn automobile with Manitoba plates ASL645.

ROBBERY ARREST                                       C11-156109
On July 26th, 2011 at approximately 12:20 a.m. Winnipeg Police Uniform Members and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to the area of Sargent Avenue and Langside Street for the report of an attempt of a strong arm robbery that had just occurred. 
 
A 20 year old male suspect allegedly attempted to rob an adult female of her personal belongings when a 36 year old male that was in the area stopped the robbery.  The female was uninjured and fled the area. 
 
The suspect then physically assaulted the 36 year old male victim, obtained a tool from the victim's bag and attempted to strike him with it.  Officers attended the scene and as a result an electronic control device was deployed and the suspect was subdued.  
 
The suspect was conveyed to hospital in stable condition and upon release was taken into custody.
 
While in custody the suspect physically assaulted a police officer who sustained minor injuries to the lower body.
 
Ivan James Mitchell CATCHEWAY, 20 years, has been charged with robbery with weapon, and assault Peace Officer.  
 
He has been detained.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 15 year old female, Carlene PRUDEN. She was last seen Sunday, July 17th in the area of St. Matthews Avenue and Clifton Street.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service considers PRUDEN to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are very concerned for her well-being.
 
 
PRUDEN is described as aboriginal, 5'2", 125lbs, medium length black hair, brown eyes, wearing blue jeans shorts and a black and white shirt.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

CHILD ABUSE IMAGERY INVESTIGATION- ARREST   R11-28465
The Winnipeg Police Service Professional Standards Unit entered into an investigation in April of 2011 surrounding allegations of Child Pornography.   As a result of the ongoing investigation and with the assistance of the Winnipeg Police Service Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, a Winnipeg man was arrested July 20th, 2011.
 
Michael Robert HALL of Winnipeg has been charged with three separate offences including; Accessing, Distributing and Possessing Child Pornography.
 
 
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- UPDATE ARREST         C11-90481
As previously released, on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members, along with Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Lucas Avenue and Brookside Boulevard (Route 90). 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that appeared to have collided with a parked semi tractor trailer in a parking lot in the area of the 500 block of Oak Point Highway.  A 33 year old male was transported to the hospital in critical condition while a 32 year old female was transported in stable condition. 
 
On July 20th, 2011, as a result of the continued investigation by members of the Central Traffic Unit a 33 year old male from Winnipeg will be facing the following charges:
 
- Drive impaired causing bodily harm
- Drive over- causing bodily harm and
- Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
 
He has been released on a promise to appear.
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION                           C11-152992
On Friday, July 22nd, 2011 at approximately 12:50 a.m. a working fire was reported in the area of the 600 block of Garwood Avenue. 
 
Upon arrival officers noted a single detached garage fire to be fully engulfed in flames. 
 
Before being extinguished, this fire spread causing extensive damage the residence as well  as to neighbouring properties, and two nearby vehicles.
 
Damage is estimated at $150,000 and there were no reported injuries.
 
This investigation is ongoing by members of the Arson Strike Force Unit.  Anyone who has any information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION                          C11-153008
On Friday, July 22nd, 2011 just before 1:30 a.m. Emergency Services Responders attended to the area of the 700 block of Scotland Avenue for a report of a working fire. 
 
The fire was extinguished and caused and estimated $100,000 in damages.
 
This investigation is ongoing by members of the Arson Strike Force Unit.  Anyone who has any information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING- UPDATE                   C11-152220
As previously released, on Thursday, July 21st, 2011 just after 2:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of St Marys Road and Guay Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery of a 31 year old cab driver by a male suspect armed with a knife. 
 
Two responding uniform members, with 12 and 13 years of service, located a suspect at which time a confrontation took place.  As a result, a firearm discharge occurred, striking the suspect.
 
The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
No one else was injured during this incident.
 
A 27 year old male is currently in police custody and will be facing robbery related charges.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.
