SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION
C12-214884
On Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency responders, attended to the area of Academy Road and Wilton Street for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
Initial investigation revealed that a passenger van occupied by an adult male and female, and three children was proceeding eastbound on Academy Road while a lone male driver operating an SUV was proceeding westbound on Academy Road. As both vehicles approached Wilton Street a serious collision occurred.
 
As a result of the collision, the driver and passengers of the van were conveyed to hospital. The adult male and female, and one child were conveyed in stable condition, and two children were conveyed in critical condition. The male driver of the SUV was treated at the scene.
 
No charges have been laid at this time.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Collision Investigation Section is continuing the investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the motor vehicle collision or have information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6271.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY   ARREST  C12-214927
On Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Broadway Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery to a convenience store.
 
The investigation revealed that a male armed with a weapon attended to a store and confronted a 32 year old female customer and a 24 year old male employee. The male suspect demanded personal items from the customer and cash from the employee. When the suspect realized that his demands were unable to be met, he fled from the store.
 
The victims were not injured as a result of this incident.
 
Responding members immediately searched the area and located the male a short time later at Portage Avenue and Spence Street. He was arrested and taken into custody. The weapon used in the robbery was recovered.
 
Elias Jeremiah HILL, 23 years of Winnipeg has been charged with: Robbery with Weapon X 2, Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance X 3 and Breach of Probation.
 
He was detained in custody.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C12-214829
On Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at approximately 10:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 300 block of Wardlaw Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery to a gas station.
 
Attending members learned that a lone male armed with a weapon and wearing a disguise attended to the location and confronted a 40 year old female employee. The suspect demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing from the gas station.
 
The victim did not sustain injury as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, 16 – 19 years old, approximately 5'6" tall with a medium build.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UPDATE – ARREST
C12-177621
As previously released - on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding a serious assault.
 
Responding members located an injured 16 year old male who had been assaulted. Due to the serious nature of the assault, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
As previously acknowledged, Michael James GUIMOND, 34 years, Richard Daniel BEAULIEU, 36 years, Warner Dairren FLETT, 24 years, Gregory James MYERION, 37 years and Colin Ray MONKMAN, 18 years were arrested and charged with Manslaughter due to their alleged involvement.
 
On Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at approximately 10:15 a.m., 24 year old, Michael OKEMOW was located and arrested by members of the Homicide Unit. He has been charged with Manslaughter due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.
