ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-210173
On October 17, 2012, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members attended to a suite located in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue for the purpose of checking on the well-being of a male resident.
 
Attending members made contact with a distraught adult male who was observed to be in possession of a rifle. It was at this time the male suspect pointed the rifle in the direction of one of the officers causing them to retreat.
 
Due to the volatile nature of the circumstances, the WPS Incident Command Structure was implemented requiring numerous resources which included: Uniform Patrol members, Tactical Support Team, Negotiators and other emergency personnel.  
 
After approximately six hours, members of the Tactical Support Team entered the suite and safely took the male resident into custody.
 
An air soft long barrelled rifle, including several knives, brass knuckles and a collapsible baton was located in the suite and seized by officers.
 
A 47 year old male has been charged with the following offences and detained:
 
Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon or Cause Bodily Harm
Point Firearm
Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon x 6
Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UPDATE – ARREST C12-177621
As previously released - on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding a serious assault.
 
Responding members located an injured 16 year old male who had been assaulted. Due to the serious nature of the assault, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
As previously acknowledged, Michael James GUIMOND, 34 years, Richard Daniel BEAULIEU, 36 years, Warner Dairren FLETT, 24 years and Gregory James MYERION, 37 years were arrested and charged with Manslaughter due to their alleged involvement.
 
On October 17, 2012, at approximately 1:15 p.m., 18 year old, Colin Ray MONKMAN was located and arrested by members of the Division 13 Community Support Unit. MONKMAN was turned over to homicide investigators and has been charged with Manslaughter due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.
