SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN – ARREST C12-197531
As previously released - on September 30, 2012, at approximately 3:55 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Lagimodiere Boulevard (Highway 59 ramp) at the South Perimeter (100) as a result of a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
The investigation has revealed that an 18 year old male was walking in the northbound median lane near the concrete divider when he was struck by a north bound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and the male victim sustained serious injuries. He remains in critical condition.
 
Members of the Central Traffic Unit continued with the investigation.
 
At approximately 1:30 p.m., a 27 year old male turned himself into police. He is facing the following charges: Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Cause Bodily Harm, (HTA) Drive without a licence (Invalid).
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – UPDATE C12-189815
As previously released - on September 20, 2012, at approximately 3:50 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Beverley Street and Portage Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
Attending members have determined that a white Toyota Prius cab was travelling southbound on Beverley Street near Portage Avenue. The cab was being operated by a 31 year old male and was occupied by a 43 year old male passenger.  
 
The investigation has revealed that the cab collided with a tree on the west side of Beverley Street just prior to Portage Avenue. Both occupants were initially conveyed from the scene in critical condition. Since that time, the 43 year old male passenger has been pronounced deceased. The driver remains in critical condition.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit continued with the investigation which included on-going efforts to retrieve surveillance video from the cab. 
 
As a result of the surveillance footage reviewed, investigators now possess information to support that a robbery attempt by the passenger had taken place. Also, due to an extensive search of the severely damaged vehicle, officers have located and seized a knife believed to have been used during the incident.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT C12-197178
On September 29, 2012, at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a serious sexual assault that occurred near Assiniboine Avenue and the Midtown Bridge.
 
Officers located a 27 year old female victim who related that she had met a male a few hours earlier in the downtown area. The two began walking for a period of time when the male suspect became aggressive with the victim. It was at this time a serious sexual assault occurred.
 
The victim eventually fled the area and notified police.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, approximately 28 years of age, Aboriginal in appearance, 6'00" tall, skinny build, shaved head, thin moustache, wearing beige pants, grey sweater and white baseball cap.
