Update - Homicide Investigation – C14-200869
As previously released -On September 20, 2014 just before 5:00 a.m., numerous police resources responded to a residence located in the first 100 block of Hill Street regarding the report of a female in need of assistance.
 
The investigation revealed that a male and female had become involved in a dispute while inside their suite. The male armed himself with a knife and stab the female victim in the upper body. The male fled and police were summoned.
 
Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the suspect in the area of Caton Street and Hill Street. While attempting to take custody of the armed male, a WPS member sustained non-life threatening lacerations. After disarming the male, the suspect proceeded to grab at the officers service pistol. The male was eventually secured and placed under arrest.
 
Officers located a 24 year-old female in a lower level suite of the residence with serious upper body injuries. She was transported from the scene in critical condition, later pronounced deceased.
 
Family notifications have been made and the victim is identified as Janelle Jirasek, 24 years of Winnipeg.
 

Kyle William HUNTER, 25 year-old of Winnipeg was charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:

2nd Degree Murder
Attempt Murder
Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer
Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Fail to Comply Undertaking

He was remanded into custody.
