Update - Homicide Investigation Arrest – C14-200869
As previously released - On September 20, 2014 just before 5:00 a.m., numerous police resources responded to a residence located in the first 100 block of Hill Street regarding the report of a female in need of assistance.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male and female had become involved in a dispute while inside their suite. The male armed himself with a knife and stab the female victim in the upper body. The male fled and police were summoned.
 
Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the suspect in the area of Caton Street and Hill Street. While attempting to take custody of the armed male, a WPS member sustained non-life threatening lacerations. After disarming the male, the suspect proceeded to grab at the officers service pistol. The male was eventually secured and placed under arrest.
 
Officers located a 24 year-old female in a lower level suite of the residence with serious upper body injuries. She was transported from the scene in critical condition, later pronounced deceased.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit continue to investigate with the assistance of Patrol, Canine and members of the Forensic Identification Section.
 
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
 
Autopsy results are pending.
 
Kyle William HUNTER, 25 year-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
2nd Degree Murder
Attempt Murder
Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer
Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Fail to Comply Undertaking
 
He was remanded into custody.

Living on the Avails of Prostitution Arrest – R14-68018
In August 2013, an adult male befriended a 17 year old female at which time he counseled, aided and coerced her to work in the sex trade. While involved in the sex trade, all monies earned were kept by the male to support his own illegal activity.
 
While their relationship continued between May and August 2014, the male subjected the female to continuous physical abuse.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Counter Exploitation Unit became aware and entered into an investigation.
 
On September 19, 2014, Walter Giovanni BERTONE, 37 years-old of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
Assault
Uttering Threats – cause death or bodily harm
Living on the avails of juvenile prostitution
 
He remains in custody.
 
 
Assault Peace Officer Arrest – C14-198888
On September 17, 2014 at approximately 8:10 p.m., an adult female had been transported by Cadet Members and was being detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.
 
During processing at the Main Street Project, the female proceeded to spit in the direction of a Cadet member striking them in the facial area.
 
Officers responded and took custody of the female.
 
Silena Josephine DANIELS, 20 years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to her alleged involvement:
 
Assault a Peace Officer
Fail to Comply with Condition of an Undertaking
 
She was detained due to her level of intoxication and aggressive behaviour.
 
 
Public Assistance Requested – Fight Investigation Update - C14-184280
As previously requested - On August 30, 2014, just after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of the 1300 block of Jefferson Avenue, the parking lot of a nearby grocery store regarding several males fighting.
 
The investigation has revealed that an altercation erupted involving numerous individuals. As a result, a 20 year-old male sustained serious upper body injuries. The male is in stable condition.
 
Further, it is believed that a vehicle may have been involved in the incident.
 
Members of the Central Traffic Unit continue to investigate. Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6271 or 204-986-5361 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
