Update - Sexual Assaults with a Weapon Investigation – Arrest C13-60891
Sometime during the month of January 2010, a male suspect met a 29 year-old female while in the area of Ellice Avenue and Victor Street.
 
The female was driven to the area of Huntleigh Street and Portage Avenue at which time the male produced a knife. The female was then forced to perform sexual acts while inside the vehicle. The suspect then verbalized threats and victimized the female further. At one point, the victim managed to grab a hold of the steering wheel and began honking the horn. These actions ended the assault and the victim was able to flee the vehicle.
 
On January 24, 2010 at approximately 11:20 p.m., a male suspect met a 41 year-old female in the vicinity of Sargent Avenue and Home Street which resulted in the female being driven to the area of Myrtle Street. The suspect produced a knife at which time a sexual act was forced upon the victim. The victim was threatened and after a period of time allowed to exit the vehicle.
 
During the early morning hours of April 1, 2013, a suspect met a 20 year-old female while in the area of Flora Avenue and King Street.
 
The female entered the suspect's vehicle at which time the victim was physically and sexually assaulted. The assault continued for nearly 4 hours. At one point, the victim attempted to stop the assault by producing a canister of pepper spray. The suspect took the pepper spray from the victim and proceeded to assault her further by discharging it in her direction.
 
Due to the violent nature of the assault, the victim sustained injuries.
 
These incidents were reported to police, which resulted in news releases, including a recent composite sketch of the suspect being made public.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Sex Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Counter Exploitation Unit, Crime Analysis members and the VICLAS Unit (Violent Crime Linkage System).
 
As a result of previous publications, additional information came forward allowing the investigation to progress.
 
Recently, the suspect was identified and arrested.
 
On September 18, 2014 Douglas BOWMAN, 50 years-old of Winnipeg was arrested at his residence and charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:   
 
Sexual Assault with a Weapon x 3
Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 3
 
He was remanded into custody. The investigation is on-going.
  
 
Theft from Vehicle Arrest – C14-199771
On September 18, 2014 at approximately 10:25 p.m., a suspect attended to the area of the 100 block of Martin Avenue West and forced entry into a Toyota Tundra by smashing the passenger side front window.
 
Once inside, a variety of items were stolen which included, a pocket knife, leather gloves and a small amount of cash.
 
The vehicle alarm was activated which resulted in the victim contacting police.
 
Further information was provided by an off-duty member that assisted Patrol members, Air1 and members of the Tactical Support Team to locate and arrest the suspect in the area of Harbison Avenue West.
 
Michael LARCHE, 37 years-old has been charged with: Theft Under $5000.00, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Mischief Under $5000.00 due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was remanded into custody.
