Saturday, September 20, 2014 Homicide Investigation C14-200869 On September 20, 2014 just before 5:00 a.m., numerous police resources responded to a residence located in the first 100 block of Hill Street regarding the report of a female in need of assistance. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with a suspect in the area of Caton Street and Hill Street. While attempting to take custody of the male, a WPS member sustained non-life threatening injuries. The male was eventually secured and placed under arrest. Officers located an adult female in a lower level suite of the residence with serious upper body injuries. She was transported from the scene in critical condition, later pronounced deceased. Members of the Homicide Unit have been notified and are investigating. Notifications are pending and names will not be released at this time. Autopsy results are pending. A 25 year-old male remains in custody and charges are pending. Body Located in River - C14-200978 At approximately 9:00 a.m. today, the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted regarding a body being located in the Red River near the Redwood Bridge. Members of the Forensic Identification Section are in the process of positively identifying a deceased female. Based on tentative identification, notifications have been made and foul play is not suspected. The investigation continues. Kidnapping Arrest C14-199866 On September 19, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 67 year-old male was confronted by a suspect after parking his vehicle in the area of Beverley Street and Sargent Avenue. The intoxicated suspect attacked the victim and began physically assaulting him in the upper body causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect continued the assault by kicking the victim while on the ground. The suspect demanded cash from the victim and an undisclosed amount was provided. It was at this time that the victim was threatened and driven in his own vehicle by the suspect to two ATM locations where he was forced to make cash withdrawals. While driving the victim's vehicle, the suspect struck a pole in the area of Portage Avenue and Arlington Street causing damage. The suspect continued to drive erratically nearly colliding with a pedestrian. For approximately 20 minutes, the victim was assaulted, threatened and robbed of cash. He was let out of the vehicle in the area of Broadway and Spence Street at which time police were notified. The victim sustained injuries as a result of the incident. At approximately 12:50 a.m., members of the Tactical Support Team located the suspect driving the victim's vehicle in the area of St. Mary Avenue and Balmoral Street. The suspect was taken into custody and arrested. Michael MIKOLAJCZYK, 34 years-old of Winnipeghas been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement: Driving while Ability Impaired Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood Robbery Kidnapping Uttering Threats Cause Death or Bodily Harm Identity Fraud Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice Driving while Disqualified Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle HTA Fail to Leave Particulars re: Damage He was remanded into custody. Commercial Robbery C14-200396 On September 19, 2014 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a lone male suspect entered a business located in the 200 block of St. Anne's Road. He proceeded to walk behind the counter and confront staff while in possession of a weapon. Cash was demanded and an undisclosed amount was relinquished. No one was injured. The suspect is described as: Caucasian male Mid-twenties Dark hair Thin build Some facial hair The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
