THE FREEDOM WALK IS STOPPING IN WINNIPEG TOMORROW!

On Sunday, May 20, 2012, the Freedom Walk Team will be passing through Winnipeg.

The Freedom Walk – Journey for Justice is all about educating Canadians on the impact of victimization from crime, abuse and bullying.

The Freedom Walk is a 4,600 kilometre walk across Canada aimed at bringing awareness to victims' rights and the Journey for Justice Campaign.

The Freedom Walk Team is a group of five males; two civilians, two Calgary police officers and one RCMP officer. These individuals have chosen to spend two months of their own time, walking across Canada to share their message that the impact of being victimized lasts far beyond the initial event. It is a long and painful journey, understood by few and travelled by far too many.

Starting in April of 2012, the group scheduled more than 50 stops along the 4,600 kilometer route from Vancouver to Toronto, where they will speak at schools and community events about bullying, abuse and the impact crime has on individuals.

The officers are part of the "5 With D.R.I.V.E", the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation, the Calgary Police Service Victim Assistance Unit and a number of other agencies working together to raise awareness and funds for victims of crime.

In addition to sharing this message, the five are also raising funds to support victims of crime. Funds raised through this initiative will go to the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation, a registered charity that supports victims of crime through scholarships and bursaries.

The "5 With D.R.I.V.E. Foundation" funds community-based initiatives, to raise awareness of vulnerable groups, by providing educational presentations to schools, businesses and community groups. They operate under the belief that education and empowerment is what makes a difference in the lives of others, and monetary assistance is a secondary attribute that aids in further change.

The Freedom Walk Team will arrive in Winnipeg on Sunday, May 20, 2012 and will continue the walk starting at 1:00 p.m. from the front of the Manitoba Legislative Building located at 450 Broadway Avenue. The team will proceed north to Broadway Avenue, then west on Broadway Avenue to Portage Avenue, continuing west on Portage Avenue to Polo Park Shopping Centre located at 1485 Portage Avenue. The total distance of the walk is 4 kilometres.
