ATTEMPTED MURDER – ARREST C12-86261
On May 11, 2012, at approximately 2:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 1900 block of William Avenue West regarding a firearm incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 56 year old male was seated in his parked vehicle, when a male suspect unknown to him approached. The suspect attempted to open the passenger door, but was unsuccessful. It was at this time the suspect produced a hammer and began striking the vehicle window.
 
The victim exited his vehicle at which time the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it in the direction of the victim. The suspect then demanded the victim's property when he attempted to discharge the handgun. The handgun did not fire, however a physical confrontation commenced. The suspect eventually fled the area on foot, leaving the hammer and handgun behind.
 
Due to the nature of the incident, numerous police resources responded, including Air1 and members of the Tactical Support Team.
 
With the assistance of witnesses and the coordinated efforts of WPS members, the suspect was located and taken into custody at approximately 2:35 a.m., in the area of Keewatin Street and Elgin Avenue West.  
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. The hammer and handgun has since been seized by officers.
 
Terrence HANSKA, 22 years of age has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
  • Attempted Murder
  • Robbery with Firearm
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Firearm, etc, while Prohibited
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon
  • Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance x 2
HANSKA was detained.
