Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Wednesday, May 23, 2012       FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C12-95557 On May 23, 2012, at approximately 11:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Higgins Avenue and Main Street regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.   Attending members have since discovered that a cyclist and a vehicle were travelling westbound on Higgins Avenue, just west of Main Street when they collided. The collision caused the cyclist to fall into the path of a westbound semi-trailer.   The driver of the initial vehicle remained on scene, however the driver of the semi-trailer continued westbound unaware of the incident.   Officers have since located the semi-trailer and driver.   A 35 year old female cyclist has been pronounced deceased. Family notifications have been made and the name of the deceased will not be released.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit.   The roadway has been re-opened.     For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt.
