Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  August 2, 2012

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARRESTS – C12-151673
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, a member of the public flagged down a passing General Patrol Unit in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue. He advised them about suspicious activity near a convenience store at that location. Officers attended and encountered 3 male youths, one who was in possession of a firearm, who were in the process of attempting to rob the store.
 
The three youths were arrested and charged with the following offences:
 
15 year old male:
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence - (Robbery)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x 2
  • Failing to comply with Conditions of an Undertaking
  • Failing to comply with a Sentence x 2
 14 year old male:
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – (Robbery)
  • Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking.
 13 year old male:
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – (Robbery)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 2
 
All three youths were detained in custody.
 
 
ARSON ARREST – C12-151511
At approximately 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012, Winnipeg Police Service General Patrol Units were dispatched to a suspicious incident in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue.
 
An area resident reported a suspicious male had entered a garage in the area and removed property. Police apprehended a male youth nearby and while taking him into custody observed the garage he allegedly broke into was on fire. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was contacted and the fire was quickly extinguished.
 
A 16 year old male youth has been charged with the following offences:
  • Break and Enter
  • Arson Damage to Property
  • Failure to comply with a Sentence

The youth was detained in custody.

 
FINANCIAL INSTITUTION ROBBERY – C12-150037
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August, 1, 2012, General Patrol Units were dispatched for the report of a robbery at a financial institution located in the 300 block of Provencher Boulevard.
 
A lone male entered the building, confronted a teller with a firearm and demanded cash. He left without incident after obtaining undisclosed amount of money.
 
The suspect was described as: male, 6' tall, stocky build.
 
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
