Friday, August 24, 2012 GRAFFITI ARREST R12-81488 With efforts continuing by members of the East District Community Support Unit to combat graffiti related crimes, officers executed a search warrant at a residence located in the area of Stranmillis Avenue on August 20, 2012. At the time of the warrant, officers seized a variety of graffiti related paraphernalia. Between August 10 and August 18, 2012, numerous locations throughout the city were targeted which included; residential properties, businesses and city property. These locations were spray painted with graffiti tags causing nearly $28,000.00 in damage to clean and remove. Due to the efforts of East District members, 18 year old, Zachary Sean CARVER was arrested on August 23, 2012 at approximately 6:40 p.m. and charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST C12-168523 On August 23, 2012, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a male suspect attended to a drug store located in the 400 block William Avenue and confronted a 19 year old female employee. The suspect was observed to be in possession of a knife at the time of the robbery. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was not injured. WPS members were notified and attended. At approximately 7:15 p.m., (1 ½ hours later), the male suspect re-attended the drug store and confronted the same female employee. Again, he demanded cash and obtained an undisclosed amount before fleeing. No injuries were reported. While investigating both incidents, uniform patrol members observed the suspect in the area of the 500 block of William Avenue. He was taken into custody and charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. Carlos Miguel AREIA, 29 years of age has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. STABBING C12-168669 On August 23, 2012, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of King Street and Dufferin Avenue regarding a fight incident. Officers and Paramedics located a 37 year old male with injuries to his upper body consistent with being stabbed. The victim was listed in unstable condition. The investigation has revealed that the victim was approached by an unknown male at which time they engaged in a conversation. The suspect suddenly began assaulting the victim and then fled the area. The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 20-25 years of age, slim build, Long hair, wearing dark clothing. The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477). MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION IMPAIRED DRIVING ARREST C12-168677 On August 23, 2012, at approximately 11:55 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of Smithfield Avenue and Scotia Street regarding a motor vehicle collision. Attending members located a white 2000 Volvo which had collided with a hydro pole. It has been determined that two 19 year old males occupied the vehicle at the time of the collision. Both males are in stable condition. The investigation has revealed that the vehicle was travelling eastbound, and while attempting to make a northbound turn, it collided with a hydro pole. The 19 year old male driver is facing the following offences:
