SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ARREST -
C12-138025
As previously released, on July 15, 2012, at approximately 8:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of Portage Avenue near Berry Street due to a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
The investigation has revealed that the driver of a GMC Acadia was travelling eastbound on Portage Avenue at a high rate of speed. A second vehicle, identified as a Honda Accord was stopped for a red light travelling in the same direction. Due to the actions of the driver of the GMC Acadia, the Honda was struck from behind causing it to flip onto its side. The GMC Acadia came to rest against a wall of a nearby business.
 
The driver of the Honda Accord, a 42 year old male was listed in serious but stable condition. The driver of the GMC Acadia, a 21 year old male and occupant sustained minor injuries.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit. Criminal charges were authorized however the accused had fled the jurisdiction and a warrant of arrest was issued.
 
On August 1, 2012 the accused was arrested by the Edmonton Police Service.
 
On August 4, 2012 members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended to Edmonton and transported the accused back to Winnipeg. 
 
Abdirahman Mohammed YAROW 21 years of Edmonton, Alberta has been detained in custody and has been charged with the following:
 
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm – Motor Vehicle
  • Take Motor Vehicle without Consent
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – C12-153549
On Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at approximately 7:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a convenience store in the 800 block of Arlington Street regarding the report of a commercial robbery.
 
Responding officers learned that the female suspect, armed with a knife had entered the business and attended to the counter. The suspect proceeded to take an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes after which she fled the store.
 
Neither of the two employees working was hurt during the incident.
 
The female suspect is described as: aboriginal in appearance, approximately 20 years of age, 5'8"-5'10" in height, heavy build.

MALE SHOT – C12-154021
On Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at approximately 10:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 600 block of Alexander Avenue for a report of a male that had been shot. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 25 year old male suffering from a gun shot wound to the lower body area. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital in unstable condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
At this point in the investigation it appears that a group of people were outside when an altercation occurred and ended with the victim being shot.

M.V.C. IMPAIRED DRIVING ARREST – C12154194
On Sunday, August 5th, 2012 at approximately 1:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 100 block of Hammond Road regarding the report of a motor vehicle collision.
 
Upon arrival officers observed that a GMC Safari van had struck a residence. No one from the vehicle or home was injured.
 
The 53 year old male driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and later released on an Appearance Notice. He is facing the following charges:
 
  • Impaired Driving – Motor Vehicle
  • Over 80 – Motor Vehicle
  • Assault
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – C12-154243
On Sunday, August 5th, 2012 at approximately 3:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 600 block of Portage Avenue regarding the report of a motor vehicle collision.
 
Attending officers learned that a vehicle travelling west bound on Portage Avenue had left the road and struck a building.
 
There were four adults and one youth within the vehicle. All were transported to hospital, two of the adults in unstable condition while the other three occupants were in stable condition.
 

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST – C12-153467
As reported previously, on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at approximately 3:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the first block of Fidler Avenue regarding the report of a male being assaulted.
 
Attending officers located an injured adult male who had been physically assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
 
As a result of the investigation, a twenty one year old male has been arrested and is facing the following charges:
 
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault x 2
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
