GRAFFITI – ARREST R11-81108
With efforts continuing by members of the East District Community Support Unit to combat graffiti related crimes, officers executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 300 block of St. Anne's Road yesterday morning.
 
Between May 3, 2011 and July 16, 2012, numerous locations throughout the city were targeted which included; residential properties, businesses and city property.
 
These locations were spray painted with graffiti tags identified as: "Swish", "Swishbone" and "ITD" (Inclined to Destroy) causing nearly $9000.00 in damage to clean and remove.
  
  
Due to the efforts of East District members with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, a warrant was executed and an arrest was made.
 
A 19 year old male is facing the following offences:
 
  • Mischief Under $5000.00 x 140
  • Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance – Marihuana
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
Further to an arrest made last month by members of the East District Community Support Unit, an adult male is facing 35 additional graffiti related charges.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank members of the public, local businesses and members of the media for their support.
 
 
INTERNET LURING, SEXUAL ASSAULT – ARREST R12-73894
In July 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) received a report from Facebook Law Enforcement Relations regarding inappropriate activity involving two accounts.
 
Between July 14, 2012 and July 30, 2012, a 25 year old male contacted a 13 year old female on Facebook and engaged in a conversation. The conversation turned sexual in nature after which time the victim was convinced to meet the suspect in person. It was during the meeting a sexual assault occurred.
 
As a result of the information provided by Facebook and the efforts by the ICE Unit and Child Abuse Unit, an arrest was made.
 
A 25 year old male is facing the following offences:
 
  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Interference
  • Luring
The male has been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY, STABBING INVESTIGATION C12-162470
On August 16, 2012, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident in the area of Beverley Street and Sargent Avenue, where a 19 year old injured male was located.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that several males forced entry into a home located in 500 block of Toronto Street. While inside, the 19 year male was confronted and stabbed to the upper body. The injured male then fled the residence and police were notified. 
 
He was initially listed in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable condition.
 
No arrests have been made at this time, however interviews are ongoing.
 
Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 204 986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).   
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C12-162478
On August 16, 2012, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a convenience store located in the 800 block of Arlington Street regarding a robbery incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that an armed female suspect entered the business and confronted a 30 year old employee. Cash and cigarettes were demanded and obtained before the suspect fled the area.
 
The suspect is described as: Female, Aboriginal in appearance, 30-34 years of age, 5'7" tall with a heavy build.
 
Members of the Major Crimes continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 204 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).
