Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

 

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012
 
 

ARSON ARREST – C12-154725
On Sunday, August 5th, 2012 at approximately 10:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 300 block of Magnus Street regarding the report of a residential fire.
 
Attending officers learned that a female suspect had attended to the residence and, aware that people were within, proceeded to light the residence on fire. Seven occupants within the residence were able to escape without injury. The suspect was located and arrested at the scene.
 
Damage is estimated at $15,000.00.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Arson Strike Force.
 
Louise Joan BLYTH, 28 years, of Winnipeg has been detained in custody and charged with the following:
 
  • Attempted Murder x 3
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Possession Incendiary Material
 
FRAUD ARREST – C12-154723
On Saturday, August 5th, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 Community Support Unit were in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Simcoe Street when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with five occupants. Once the vehicle stopped, a male passenger fled the vehicle.
 
With the assistance of the Canine Unit, the male was located a short distance away and taken into custody.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Commercial Crime unit.
 
Travis Adam FINDLAY, 33 years, of Winnipeg has been detained in custody and charged with the following:
 
  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000.00
  • Possess, Procure to be made, Transfer, Sell or Offer to Sell an Identity Document
  • Obtain or Possess the Identity Information of Another Person x 2
  • Breach of Probation
 
PUBLIC MISCHIEF ARREST – C12-153439
Between July 12th, 2012 and August 4th, 2012 the 911 Communications Centre received several calls from a male reporting fires and assaults in progress. Emergency personnel were dispatched to each incident and all were determined to be unfounded.
 
On August 4th, 2012 at approximately 3:00 a.m. this male again called 911 from a payphone in the 600 block of Balmoral Street reporting a fire in the first block of Balmoral Street which was later determined to be unfounded. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended to the area at which time the accused was located and taken into custody.
 
A 28 year old male from Winnipeg has been released on a Promise to Appear and is facing the following charges:
 
·        Public Mischief x 7
·        Harassing Telephone Calls x 7
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to encourage the public to utilize the 911 system in a responsible manner. When 911, is not used as it was intended, a significant amount of resources become unavailable to others who may legitimately require assistance. Their safety is ultimately jeopardized.
