Winnipeg Police Service News Release

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- ROAD CLOSURE    C11-256942
On December 11th, 2011 at approximately 11:10 a.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Maryland Street for reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. 
 
The pedestrian, an adult male, has been transported to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
All eastbound traffic on Portage Avenue has been closed at Maryland Avenue.  Motorists are requested avoid the area and choose an alternate route.
 
This investigation is ongoing. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- CORRECTION        C11-256852
 
*Please note corrected time for the below commercial robbery that was previously released. 
 
On December 11th, 2011 at approximately 6:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 members responded to a convenience store within the 2000 block of Pembina Highway for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that two male suspects, armed with metal poles, entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes from the 28 year old male clerk. 
 
After obtaining cash and cigarettes, the suspects fled the store towards Chancellor Drive.
 
The suspects are both described as being:  Caucasian males, approximately 18 to 20 years of age, 5'11" tall with thin builds and wearing black jackets.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the suspects is asked to contact police at 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
