Thursday, December 29th, 2011 11:15 a.m. FIRE INVESTIGATION C11-267523 As previously released, on December 28th, 2011 just before 4:15 a.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to a multi- unit condominium complex within the 800 block of St. Paul Avenue for a report of a working fire. Upon arrival, the fire was well involved and it was determined that all occupants of the building had safely escaped. The fire was fought for a number hours before it was extinguished, resulting in a complete loss of the structure. At this time, damage estimates are three million dollars. This investigation is ongoing by members of the Arson Strike Force and the Office of the Fire Commissioner. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined. FRAUD INVESTIGATION- ARREST R11-125579 Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Crime Unit members entered into an investigation regarding stolen Winnipeg Jets hockey tickets that were being sold to unsuspecting individuals throughout the City of Winnipeg. As a result of the continued investigation a suspect male was identified and on December 28th, 2011, he turned himself into the Division 13 police station. A 21 year old male will be facing four counts of fraud under $5000 and possession of goods obtained by crime. He has been released to appear in court at a later date. The Winnipeg Police Service is recommending that individuals looking to purchase hockey tickets only do so from persons to known to them or through an appropriate ticket exchange venue. COMMERICAL ROBBERIES- ARREST C11-259505 On December 28th, 2011 at approximately 2:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a convenience store within 400 block of Talbot Avenue for a report of a male that had just attended to the store that is believed to be responsible for a previous robbery that had occurred on December 15th, 2011. Upon arrival East District Members confirmed that the male suspect had fled the store westbound on Talbot Avenue. A canine team attended and a track was initiated. As a result of the track, the suspect male was located in the area of the 300 block of Talbot Avenue without incident. As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit, the same male suspect is believed to be responsible for the following incidents: - Robbery- December 15th, 2011 at 3:30 a.m. at a convenience store within the 400 block of Talbot Avenue. Cigarettes and merchandise obtained. - Theft- December 15th, 2011 shortly after 6:00 a.m. at a convenience store within the 1000 block of Henderson Highway. Cigarettes and merchandise obtained. - Possession Property Obtained by Crime- May 27th, 2011, a mountain bike valued at $450.00 There were no injuries reported during these incidents. David Ross JOHNSON 38 years of Winnipeg is facing the following charges for his alleged involvement in these incidents: - Robbery with weapon - Carry concealed weapon - Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose - Theft under - Possess property obtained by crime JOHNSON has been detained in custody.
