Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

MALE SHOT INVESTIGATION          C11-254016
On December 7th, 2011 at approximately 3:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of the 700 block of Beverley Street for the sound of shots being fired. 
 
Upon arrival officers located an injured adult male in the area.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
The victim remains in the critical condition.  This investigation is ongoing. 
 
 
DRUG WARRANT- ARRESTS            C11-253129
On December 5th, 2011, as a result of an investigation, lead by members of the Street Crimes Unit, a controlled drug and substance act search warrant was executed at a suite within the 100 block of Balmoral Street. 

Two male suspects, aged 20 and 31 years, were taken into custody during the investigation.  The following has been seized: 
 
- $17,500 Canadian Currency 
- 2042 Ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of $20,420
- 2.5 ounces of Cocaine, estimated street value of $3000
- 2.35 ounces of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), valued at $4500
- 3 Grams of Cannabis Marihuana
 
Both males have been released to appear in court at a later date. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS  C11-253366
On December 6th, 2011 at just before 6:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service East District and Division 13 members responded to a gas bar in the area of Gateway Road and McLeod Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Responding members learned that three persons attended to the gas bar in a Dodge Avenger.  Two male suspects exited the vehicle and entered the kiosk where they confronted an 18 year old female employee. The suspects obtained cash and cigarettes and fled to an awaiting vehicle.  While exiting the parking lot the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle.  Two suspects fled the vehicle on foot as the female suspect drove off without exchanging particulars.
 
Officers, including a canine unit surrounded the area in search of the suspects.  As a result of the keen observations by uniform members, two male suspects were taken into custody in the area without incident. 

Further investigation by general patrol officers resulted in both the suspect vehicle and the suspect female being located within the 400 block of Flora Avenue. 
 
Merchandise from the store has been recovered.   
 
Shane Paul GUIBOCHE, 29 years, Clinton WIRFFEL, 26 years and Chelsey Dawn MENTUCK, 27 years, all of Winnipeg, have been charged with Robbery for their alleged involvement in this incident.  GUIBOCHE and WIRFFEL have also been charged with wear a disguise with intent and breach of probation.  
 
They have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
 
STOLEN VEHICLE- ARREST       C11-253973
On December 6th, 2011 shortly after 1:20 a.m. Division 11 patrolling members observed a stolen GMC Sierra truck being operated in the area of Ellice Avenue and Furby Street.  In a coordinated effort between Air1 and ground unit members a traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Agnes Street and Sargent Avenue.  
 
The suspect vehicle initially stopped for officers and then suddenly rammed a marked cruiser car, before stopping again.  As officers approached the stolen truck, in attempts to apprehend the suspect, the vehicle accelerated in the direction of an officer causing him to have to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.  
 
The stolen truck then fled northbound on Agnes Street, striking a second cruiser car. 
 
Air1 officers maintained a visual on the stolen truck and directed officers to the area of the 600 block of Wellington Avenue when the suspect male abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.  At approximately 1:30 a.m. the suspect was taken into custody without incident after a brief foot chase.
 
Demian Merle PATRICK, 27 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement in this incident: 
 
- Assault peace officer with weapon or cause bodily harm
- Drive impaired and fail to provide breath sample
- Fail to comply condition of recognizance X 3
- Drive without licence
- Theft over $5000
- Flight from police officer and dangerous operation of motor vehicle
- Mischief under $5000 X 2
 
PATRICK has been detained in custody.
 
ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICE CARTRIDGE LOST  R11-121248
On December 5th, 2011, sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., a cartridge for a Taser™ electronic control device became dislodged from a uniform patrol member while on duty in Division 13 (Northwest Winnipeg). 
 
The electronic control device unit itself was not lost.  This cartridge contains probes on wires which extend when the device is discharged.  Efforts are ongoing to locate the cartridge.
   
Should this device be located a member of the public, please contact police immediately.
