Thursday, December 15th, 2011 FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM - WEEK #1 RESULTS The Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has provided the results from the first week of the Festive Check Stop Program. * 509 Vehicles were stopped * 56 ApprovedScreening Device (ASD) Tests were administered * 11 - 24 hour suspensions were issued (ASD Warns) * 12 Drive Impaired/Over/Refusal Charges * 54 Provincial Offence Notices were issued * 3 Warrants were executed * 1 person was arrested for failing to comply with conditions of a Recognizance CHILD ABUSE IMAGERY ARREST R11-121544 During November and December 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, (ICE) conducted a proactive investigation into the illegal sharing of child abuse imagery. Due to their investigative efforts, an Internet Protocol (IP) address was identified where a significant volume of images and videos were associated. After further investigation, it was determined that confirmed images of child pornography were being shared. Investigators identified an address within the City of Winnipeg where a search warrant was executed. On December 14, 2011, at approximately 8:15 a.m., ICE Unit members with the assistance of District 6 Uniform members, executed the warrant and arrested a 42 year old male. He is facing the following charges:
He was released on a Promise to Appear. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION ARREST C11-251658 As previously released, on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service uniform members responded to a suspicious incident within the 200 block of Morley Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the body of a deceased adult male who had sustained upper body injuries. The victim has been identified as Sheldon KOSTENKO, 33 years of Winnipeg. The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit. On December 14, 2011, the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public's assistance in locating 24 year old Denver Sean GYLES. On December 15, 2011, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service members conducted a traffic stop in the area of Princess Street and McDermot Avenue. It was at this time GYLES was located within the vehicle and placed under arrest. He has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and remains in custody.
