HOMICIDE UPDATE                                             C11-251658
As previously released, on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at approximately 4:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service General Patrol units responded to a suspicious incident in 200 block of Morley Avenue.
 
Within the block Police located the body of a deceased adult male who had died as a result of upper body injuries. The victim has been identified as:
 
  • Sheldon KOSTENKO, 33 years of Winnipeg
 
The Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit is currently investigating.  Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
ASSAULT WITH WEAPON ARREST                    C11-26408
On Friday, November 18th, 2011 a 14 year old female student at a Winnipeg high school was confronted by a 15 year old male student in the hallway. The male began uttering racist comments of an anti-Semitic nature. The male youth then produced a cigarette lighter and singed the victim's hair. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
 
Police were contacted on November 25th and entered into an investigation. As a result, on December 2nd the 15 year old male youth was charged with Assault with a Weapon.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
  
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST                             C11-251537
On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at approximately 12:15 a.m. Winnipeg Police received a report of motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Osborne Street North and St. Mary Avenue. A vehicle had collided with a Winnipeg Transit bus and the occupants of the vehicle had fled on foot.
 
The Winnipeg Police helicopter unit, Air-1 was in the air and became immediately involved. Two suspects were followed utilizing the FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared). The suspects were arrested a few blocks away by a General Patrol unit.
 
A 34 year old male is facing the following charges:
 
  • Impaired Driving
  • Failure to Provide Breath Sample
 He was released on a Promise to Appear.
