Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

SHOTS FIRED INVESTIGATION                     C11-263287
On December 20th, 2011 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members received a number of calls to attend to the area of the 500 block of Pacific Avenue for a report of shots being fired. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a 22 year old male victim who had sustained gun shot wounds to his upper and lower body.  Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition.   
 
A number of individuals have been interviewed by detectives from the Major Crimes Unit.  At this stage in the investigation, officers have learned that the male victim, along with a 24 year old female were within a Chevrolet Silverado truck that was stopped on the front street in the 500 block of Pacific Avenue.  While at this location, 3 to 5 unknown male suspects approached the truck and ordered both victims out of the vehicle. 
 
As the victims exited the truck, a firearm was produced by one of the suspects and a number of shots were fired in the direction of the male victim striking him in the upper and lower body.   There were no other injuries reported during this incident. 
 
The suspects fled in the truck westbound on Pacific Avenue, striking a parked vehicle, a fire hydrant and a fence. The stolen truck was later recovered in the rear lane within the 400 block of Pacific Avenue. 
 
This Investigation is ongoing by members of the Major Crimes Unit however detectives have received limited information regarding the suspects or the incident at this time. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS              C11-261370
As previously released, on December 17th, 2011 at approximately 7:20 p.m. two males entered a taxi cab in the area of St. Mary Avenue and Hargrave Street and requested to be taken to a location near Notre Dame Avenue and Maryland Street. During the ride, one of the males threatened the driver, implied he was in possession of a gun and demanded cash.
 
When the cab stopped in the area of Maryland Street and Notre Dame Avenue the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money. 
 
The 52 year old driver was not injured. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit two male suspects were identified and arrested.  
 
Lance Travis SPENCER, 22 years of Winnipeg, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and failing to comply with condition of recognizance.
 
Vincent Joshua MORIN, 26 years, of Winnipeg, has been charged with robbery with a firearm for his alleged involvement in this incident.  MORIN is also facing a charge of assault with a weapon for his alleged involvement in an incident that occurred on December 19th, 2011 at a retail store within the 700 block of Sherbrook Street. 
 
During this incident, a 26 year old male along with an unidentified male were approached by security after causing a disturbance. When asked to leave the premise a knife was produced and the security guard was threatened. No one was injured.  
 
Both males have been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- ARREST WARRANTS   C11-254016
As previously released, on December 7th, 2011 at approximately 3:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of the 700 block of Beverley Street for the sound of shots being fired. 
 
Upon arrival officers located an injured adult male in the rear lane suffering from gun shot wounds.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
On December 8th, 2011 during the late evening hours, investigators were notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.  The victim has been identified as Darren Paul GEORGE, 22 years of Winnipeg.  
 
As a result of the ongoing investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, two suspect males have been identified.  Arrest warrants for the charge of 2nd Degree Murder have been issued for the following two suspect males: 
 
 
Chance Moses GUIMOND, 19 years
 
 
 
Cody Joseph KAKEEWAY, 18 years
 
Efforts have been ongoing to locate the suspects however investigators believe they are evading police.
