Winnipeg Police Service News Release

2011 FESTIVE SEASON CHECK STOP PROGRAM
Today the Winnipeg Police Service begins its 2011 Festive Season Check Stop program.  This campaign is dedicated to reducing the number of impaired driving offences that occur within the City of Winnipeg.

Impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death in Canada.

Through the month of December, including New Years Eve, motorists can expect to see an increased presence of police officers on our roadways. These officers will be targeting those drivers that CHOOSE to endanger the lives of others on our streets by driving while impaired.

The names of drivers charged with impaired driving related offences will once again be made public.

Please have a plan in place before you go out.  The decision to choose whether or not you will drive should not be after you have consumed alcohol.

If a member of the public observes a suspected impaired driver, they are encouraged to contact 911 immediately.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Festive Season.
