PUBLIC ADVISORY - RIVER ICE CONDITIONS
The Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol Unit would like to remind the public that thin ice is present on our rivers and retention ponds due to recent mild temperatures. Frozen waterways are considered to be unsafe as ice thickness can be very unpredictable.
 
Members of the public are asked to use extreme caution when venturing near any bodies of water.
 
Parents and guardians are asked to remind their children of the dangers involving cold water and thin ice.

COMMERCIAL BREAK AND ENTER – ARREST C11-265694
On December 24, 2011, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a school located in the 400 block of Munroe Avenue regarding a break and enter incident.
 
Attending members discovered that several lower level windows had been smashed and a small quantity of items stolen.
 
Officers continued to investigate which included evidence gathering by members of the Forensic Identification Section.
 
At approximately 1:15 p.m., officers made contact with a male in the area of the break-in, at which time he was placed under arrest.
 
A 24 year old male is facing the following charges:
 
·        Break, Enter a place
·        Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – marihuana
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING C11-266100
On December 25, 2011, at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of a stabbing incident in the area of Ellice Avenue and Hargrave Street.
 
Investigating officers were advised that a group of males became involved in an argument resulting in a 24 year old male being stabbed multiple times to the upper body. A friend had since transported the victim to the hospital.
 
The victim is in stable condition.
 
No arrest(s) have been made at this time. The investigation is continuing.
 
 
FIRE C11-266513
On December 26, 2011, at approximately 5:25 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a community club located in the 100 block of Chelsea Place.
 
The fire to an outdoor rink was extinguished. Damage is currently estimated at $25,000.00 - $30,000.00.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force have been notified. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
