Tuesday, December 13, 2011 FRAUD ARRESTS C11-257574 On December 12, 2011, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Canine Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Portage Avenue and Lyle Street due to a driving infraction. As a result of the traffic stop and investigative efforts, three occupants were taken into custody and a fraud investigation commenced. At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the three occupants attended to the city of Winnipeg from the greater Toronto area for the purpose of committing credit card fraud. It's alleged that the accused travelled throughout Winnipeg utilizing counterfeit debit cards to make withdrawals and purchases at merchant locations. The following items were located and seized from within the vehicle: · 38 counterfeit debit cards · $10,200.00 Canadian currency · Various electronics associated to credit card fraud · Credit Card gift cards Sugenthan Sven THIRUNAVUKARSU, 25 years, Niroshon PLACIDASS, 23 years and Nathalie Renee GRAHAM-HUNT 23 years have been charged with numerous fraud related offences. They were detained. The investigation is continuing by members of the Commercial Crime Unit. ROBBERY ARREST C11-258082 On December 13, 2011, at approximately 3:25 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of Redwood Avenue regarding a male cab driver who had been robbed. The investigation has since revealed that the driver was dispatched to pick up a fare at a residence located in the area of the 400 block of Redwood Avenue. It was at this time an armed male suspect confronted the driver and proceeded to rob him of his property including an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled to a nearby by residence at which time police were summoned. The driver was not injured. The investigation continued at which time the suspect was located nearby. He was taken into custody without incident. The stolen property was recovered and a pellet gun was seized. An adult male remains in police custody at this time. Members of the Major Crime Unit continue to investigate. ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON ARRESTS C11-258107 C11-258907 On December 13, 2011, at approximately 5:10 a.m., uniform members responded to the area of Wardlaw Avenue and Osborne Street regarding two male victims who had been peppered sprayed and one stabbed. The suspects fled the area. The male who had been stabbed was conveyed to hospital and is listed in stable condition. Officers learned of another incident in the area of Corydon Avenue and Cockburn Street where an adult male had also been pepper sprayed involving two male suspects. Due to the efforts of uniform members and the Canine Unit both male suspects (18 years) were located and taken into custody. The investigation is continuing by members of the District 6 Crime Unit.
