COPS FOR KIDS BICYCLE RELAY
At 11:45 a.m. today the Winnipeg Police Service"Cops for Kids" Bicycle Relay team will mark their 9th bi-annual tour to raise awareness and funds for the Manitoba Chapter of the Children's Wish Foundation.  This year the team will be riding to Key West, Florida, a distance of 4200 kilometres.  This "Quest for the Key" goes 24 hours a day rain or shine and will take the team 7 full days; with the arrival planned for Friday, May 27th, 2011, at 1:00 a.m. in Key West, Florida.
 
The"Cops for Kids" team was formed in 1995 and has been cycling all over North-America every second year since.  The team, currently made up of 5 female and 15 male members of the Service, has cycled thousands of kilometres during previous tours to destinations of Vancouver, Halifax, Mexico, San Diego, New York, Clearwater Florida and San Francisco.  Since their inception the team has raised over $400,000 for the Children's Wish Foundation.
 
The vision shared by Children's Wish and all members of the team, is to have every child, enjoy the best quality of life possible including the experience of laughter, shared joy and treasured memories with important people in their lives.  With this tour the team hopes to raise enough money to grant 5 special children with life threatening illnesses their most heartfelt wish.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- ARREST       C11-97958
As previously released, on Sunday, May 15th, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members attended to a pizza business located in the 1100 block of Concordia Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred by two male suspects.
 
During this incident a 54 year old male employee was assaulted and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
 
A continuing investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit has resulted in a second arrest in connection with this incident.
 
Byron Charlie Bushie, 18 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and remains in custody.
