Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Saturday, May 7th, 2011

ATTEMPT SEXUAL ASSAULT                    C11-88368
On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 at approximately 4:00 p.m. a 62 year old female victim was gardening in her yard in the River Osborne area when she observed a male wandering in the area.  Eventually this male suspect approached the victim asking her to assist him in finding an address and then requested to use her telephone.   
 
When the victim declined, this suspect male produced a knife and grabbed the victim by the wrist, pulling her between some houses.  The victim's screams alerted a neighbour and the suspect immediately fled the area. 
 
Winnipeg Police Service Units attended and conducted an extensive search of the area however the suspect was not located.  The victim was not injured during this incident. 
 
The following composite has been composed. 
 
 

The suspect is described as:
 
Black male, approximately 19 to 20 years, approximately 5'7", with short dark hair and clean shaven. 
 
The suspect was wearing a brown zip up hooded sweatshirt, white Bermuda plaid shorts and was carrying a back pack.

FIRE INVESTIGATION                          C11-91591
On Saturday, May 7th, 2011 at approximately 5:25 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members along with Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to a working fire in a detached garage within the 300 block of Young Street. 
 
Upon arrival, officers and fire fighters noted the garage and a vehicle within, to be fully engulfed in flames.   The fire was extinguished but not before causing damage to a nearby hydro pole.  Damage is estimated at $130, 000. 
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force. 
 
 
SERIOUS ASSAULT- UPDATE               C11-90434
As previously released, on Friday, May 6th, 2011 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to the area of Maryland Street and Cumberland Avenue for a report of an injured male.
 
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who appeared to have been physically assaulted.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
Officers have identified the victim as a 43 year old male, and have learned that the victim was in the area when he was robbed by an unknown number of persons.
 
This investigation is still continuing by the Members of the Majors Crimes Unit.  Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
