Winnipeg Police Service News Release

Saturday, May 14th, 2011 1:00 p.m.       ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON- ARREST  C11-97146 On Saturday, May 14th, 2011 at approximately 4:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members attended to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sargent Street for a report of a male that had been stabbed.    Upon arrival, Officers along with Emergency Services Responders located a 36 year old male with a number of stab wounds to his upper body.  Paramedics transported the male to the hospital in unstable condition and he has since been upgraded to stable condition.   At approximately 5:45 a.m., patrolling Division 11 Members conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Pacific Avenue West and Worth Street, where two males were taken into custody without incident.     As a result of the continued investigation by members from the Division 11 Crime Unit a 36 year old male known to the victim, has been arrested in connection with this incident.   He will be facing a charge of Assault with a Weapon.     A 25 year male, unrelated to this incident, was also arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant.   This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.    For further information contact either: Constable Natalie Aitken, Public Information Officer Constable Jason Michalyshen, Public Information Officer Office: (204)986-3061 Fax: (204) 986-3267 Email: WPS-PIO@Winnipeg.ca   Web: www.winnipeg.ca/Police
