MAILBOX THEFTS – INVESTIGATION C11-77771
During the months of March and April 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service have been notified of over 40 incidents involving mailbox thefts.
 
The investigation has since revealed that the suspect(s) involved, break into mailboxes situated within apartment complexes where various mail items are stolen.
 
This appears to be a city-wide issue where the suspects involved have broken into apartment blocks in the Downtown, North Henderson Highway, South Pembina Highway, West Portage Avenue and Osborne Village areas. The suspect(s) involved appear to be targeting large apartment complexes which are outfitted with a separate mailroom.
 
As a result of the ongoing investigation, investigators are now requesting the public's assistance in identifying the following individual:  
    
  
 
 
  
 
The suspect identified in all three photos is described as follows: Male, in his mid 30's to early 40's, medium build, 5'8" – 5'10" in height, clean shaven, long hair in a ponytail with the sides of his head shaved. When wearing a hat, he appears to have a completely shaved head as he hides his ponytail. He appears to have a vertical crease on his forehead between his eyes and a receding hairline.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to advise all members of the public to keep close watch on their bank accounts for unusual activity and pay special attention to any mail they are expecting but have not received.
 
Members of the public are requested to report any suspicious activity around mailbox rooms of apartment complexes immediately.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - UPDATE C11-85228
As previously released, on April 29, 2011 at approximately 6:25 p.m., Uniform members responded to the sound of shots fired in the area of the 500 block of Portage Avenue.
 
Attending members learned that a 20 year old male victim suffering from upper body injuries had already been transported to hospital and was listed in critical condition.
 
During the morning hours of April 30, 2011, the victim, identified as Trevor Abraham HARPER succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit have since become involved and continue to investigate.
 
At this stage of the investigating, it appears that the victim and his associates were confronted after which time a firearm discharge took place.
 
No arrest(s) have been made at this time.

VEHICLE ROBBERY C11-86505
On May 1, 2011 between 2:00 a.m. – 2:30 a.m., a 27 year old male and 25 year old female were parked in a vehicle in the area of 2100 block of McPhillips Street when they were confronted by a male and female suspect.
 
The male suspect approached the vehicle at which time he demanded a ride. The male victim declined when the female victim was physically removed by the suspect. The male suspect then entered the vehicle and subsequently assaulted the male victim to the upper body. The male victim then exited the vehicle and both suspects fled the area in the stolen truck.
 
The suspects are described as:
 
Male suspect - Aboriginal in appearance, late 30's, tall, slim build, long black hair in a ponytail, round glasses with thick lenses, wearing dark clothing.
 
Female suspect – Caucasian, late 20's, 5'2" – 5'6" in height, long dirty blonde hair past her shoulder, wearing a light coloured jacket and blue jeans.
 
Minor injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
 
Later in the morning, officers recovered the stolen truck parked in the area of the 400 block of Garlies Street.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
