ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON ARREST - C13-156179
As previously released, on Monday, August 5th, 2013 at approximately 11:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred in the area of Concordia Avenue and Molson Street.
 
Upon arrival police learned that a 27-year-old male and his 14-year-old male relative were riding their bicycles in the area when they were confronted by an unknown adult male.
 
The suspect followed them in a vehicle for a short distance at which time he exited the vehicle and attacked the 27-year-old and 14-year-old victims with a blunt weapon.
 
The victims were able to flee the area and contacted police. Both victims were conveyed to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
 
The investigation led to a suspect in the incident being identified as Rodney Patrick SWEENEY, a known long-time member of the Hells Angels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.  A warrant for his arrest was issued.
 
On Tuesday, August 13, 2013 SWEENEY was arrested.  He has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault with A Weapon

He was detained in custody at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST – C13-162163
On Wednesday, August 13, 2013 shortly after 1:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a convenience store in the 1100 block of Nairn Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Responding officers met with a 33 year old clerk who advised that a lone male had entered the store and attended to the counter.  The suspect indicated that he had a weapon, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of money after which he fled on foot.
 
The clerk was not injured.
 
A short time later the suspect was located in the area and taken into custody without incident.
 
Patrick Ronaldo KNUBA 25 years of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Robbery with theft
  • Identity Fraud – Intent to gain advantage
  • Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance
  • Breach of Probation

He has been detained in custody at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – C13-162158
On Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at approximately 1:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Garfield Street South and Portage Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle collision.
 
Attending members located a single vehicle that had struck a building.  The lone occupant, an adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition.
 
At this point of the investigation it appears that the vehicle was travelling northbound on Garfield Street and as it crossed Portage Avenue the driver lost control and collided with the building.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
