STRONG-ARM ROBBERY INVESTIGATIONS  C13-153144/ C13-153069

On August 1, 2013 shortly after 10:20 p.m. a 21 year old male victim was walking in the area of Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street when he was approached from behind by a male suspect who produced a handgun and demanded money. 
 
The victim fled and the suspect was last seen running eastbound on Corydon Avenue. 
 
Then, just before midnight, a 49 year old female victim was walking in the same area when she was approached by a female suspect armed with a handgun.   When the female suspect demanded the victim's purse, a male suspect appeared and also demanded money from the victim. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and both suspects fled.
 
There were no reported injuries.  
 
The suspects are described as:

  • Male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 17 to 21 years of age, with a slim build and short shaggy black hair.  He was wearing a hoody with the hood up.
  • Female, 18 to 21 years of age with a medium build and brown shoulder length hair. She was wearing dark clothing.
     

The handgun was described as a black pistol.

COMMERICAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS              C13-153267
On August 2, 2013 at approximately 4:50 a.m. patrolling Division 11 Uniform Officers were flagged down in the area of William Avenue and Isabel Street by an employee who reported the convenience store had just been robbed.  Officers observed the suspects walking westbound on William Avenue, who immediately fled upon seeing police.
 
After a brief foot pursuit two female suspects were taken into custody without incident. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by the Division 11 members, two female youths, aged 15 and 16 years will be facing a charge of Robbery with a Weapon.
 
They will be released to appear in court at a later date.
 
 
CHILD ABUSE IMAGERY INVESTIGATION- ARREST    R13-51625
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, acting on information received from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre, entered into an investigation involving child abuse images that were located on the internet.
 
On Tuesday, August 1, 2013, shortly before 8:00 a.m., as a result of investigation led by members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit and assisted by the Technology Crimes Unit, a search warrant was executed at a residence within the 400 block of Bannatyne Avenue.
 
An assortment of electronic items was seized and a forensic investigation is continuing.
 
A 51 year old male from Winnipeg turned himself into police and is facing the following charges:

  • Importing/Distributing Child Pornography
  • Possessing Child Pornography
  • Access Child Pornography

He has been released to appear in court at a later date.
