Crime Prevention Tip

BICYCLE THEFT PREVENTION

Did You Know?
• As many as 3,000 bicycles are reported stolen in
Winnipegevery year.
• The city recovers up to 1,500 bicycles each year,
but only 10% to 12% are returned to their rightful
owners.
• The city sells over 1,000 bicycles a year because
owners can't be traced to the recovered bicycle.
• The city holds auctions of bicycles twice a year.

The best way to protect your bicycle is with a good lock and to register it with the City of Winnipeg Community Services Bicycle Recovery Section. If your bicycle is stolen and then located, you will be notified immediately and arrangements can be made for you to get your bicycle back.
How do I register my bicycle?
Complete the Bicycle Registration Form and return it to:
The City of Winnipeg
Bicycle Recovery Section

18-30 Fort St.
Winnipeg, MB R3C 4X3

Forms are available on line at www.winnipeg.ca/cms/license_branch/  or at the Bicycle Recovery Section and other select locations.

Remember: Never park your bike, even for a few minutes,
without chaining and locking it. That's all the
opportunity a thief needs.
For information on registering your bike or on the auctions please contact:
