COMMERCIAL ROBBERY                                                 C13-171215

On August 25, 2013 at approximately 5:20 p.m., two masked suspects entered a retail store within the 3000 block of Portage Avenue and attended directly to the pharmacy area where they demanded narcotics. 
 
One of the suspects, armed with a gun, forced staff members onto the floor while the second suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of narcotics. 
 
No physical injuries were sustained during this incident. 
 
The suspects are described: 
 
Suspect one: Male, approximately 6'0" tall and 220 to 230 pounds, wearing a grey hoodie, a black balaclava and dark colored track pants.
 
Suspect Two: Male, approximately 6' 2" tall, approximately 170 pounds with a thin build, a fair complexion and blonde/ light colored reddish hair.   He was wearing dark colored shorts with black shoes and a bandana up to his nose.

BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATION- UPDATE ARREST C13-98754
As previously released, on May 24, 2013 at approximately 2:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the area of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Street North regarding a break and enter incident that just occurred.
 
The investigation has revealed that an unknown male gained entry into the home and made contact with a female youth while she was asleep. The victim was not injured however it is believed that the suspect's intentions were sexual in nature.  An electronic item was stolen prior to the suspect fleeing the scene. 
 
Patrol officers and members of the Canine Unit searched the area at the time with negative results for the suspect.
 
As a result of the lengthy investigation, led by members of the Sex Crimes Unit, a suspect male was identified and an arrest warrant was obtained.   
 
On August 23, 2013, shortly before 2:00 p.m. the suspect was located within the 800 block of Sargent Avenue and taken into custody without incident.
 
As a result of his alleged involvement in this matter, Anthony Byron TRAVERSE, 30 years of Winnipeg, is facing the following charges:

 

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Interference
  • Break, Enter Dwelling House- commit indictable offence
  • Theft Under

 
TRAVERSE has been detained in custody.
 
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION                                               C13-171445
On Sunday, August 25, 2013 at approximately midnight Winnipeg Police Service, along with Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, responded to a garage fire in the first 100 block of Arthur Wright Crescent. The fire also resulted in damage to a fence, and a neighbouring garage. Total damage is estimated at $31,000.
 
A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

FIRE INVESTIGATION                                               C13-171445
On Monday, August 26, 2013 at approximately 3:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service, along with Fire Paramedic Service responded to a working garage fire in the 400 block of Arlington Street. The fire was contained to the garage. Damage was estimated at $25,000 for both structure and contents.
