PROJECT RETURN
The Winnipeg Police Service's Counter Exploitation Unit and Missing Persons Unit, in partnership with StreetReach Winnipeg initiated a joint project with the aim of protecting youth within our city who are at high risk of being sexually exploited.
 
On August 15, 2013, this proactive effort resulted in: 
 

  • Eight males being arrested for Communicating for the Purpose of Engaging in Prostitution. 
  • Twenty-six addresses being checked for missing youth with these checks further encompassing curfew and court order compliance checks for past sex offenders. 
  • Three at risk youth being located and each transported to a place of safety.  
  • Thirteen DISC stops (Deter Identify Sex Trade Workers and Consumers) stops were conducted to help identify those involved in the sex trade. 

Our commitment to issues surrounding our missing and exploited youth will continue.
 
StreetReach Winnipeg is an organization that is committed to protecting at risk youth in our community.  It is comprised of numerous organizations including the Child Protection Branch, All Nations Coordinated Response Network,MaryMound Inc., Mamawi and MARTR (Manitoba Association for Residential Treatment Resources).
