Crime Prevention Tip

 FRAUDULENT TELEPHONE SOLICITATIONS

The Winnipeg Police Service has received reports from local businesses who have received telephone calls from individuals identifying themselves as being associated to the Winnipeg Police Service or the Winnipeg Police Association.  During the telephone call a request is made for the business to buy advertising space in an upcoming magazine or publication.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind businesses and individuals that if you receive a telephone call requesting money to support a local charity or a not-for profit agency to ask for the information to be sent to you in writing.  Legitimate charities and organizations will have no problem giving you this information and they do not request credit card information over the phone.
