Winnipeg Police Service News Release

Sunday, January 29th, 2012 10:15 a.m.     STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARREST          C12-16962 On January 28th, 2012 just before 11:00 a.m. patrolling Division 13 members were in the area of Mountain Avenue and Aikins Street when they came upon a male who had stabbed in the upper body.  Officers learned that the victim had just fled from a nearby residence after an altercation with another male at that location.     The 23 year old male victim was transported to the hospital in unstable condition with injuries to his upper body.  He has since been upgraded to stable condition.   A number of police units attended to the area and located a residence within the 300 block of Mountain Avenue where the altercation occurred.  Officers located a number of individuals including a second male victim and a 29 year old male who was taken into custody without incident.  The male victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition with upper body injuries.   As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit, and assisted by East District members, a 29 year old male has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possess of weapon for dangerous purpose.   This investigation is ongoing.      For further information contact either: Constable Natalie Aitken, Public Information Officer Constable Jason Michalyshen, Public Information Officer Office: (204)986-3061 Fax: (204) 986-3267 Email: WPS-PIO@Winnipeg.ca   Web: www.winnipeg.ca/Police
