FIREARM AND DRUG INVESTIGATION – ARRESTS C12-7581
On January 13, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Division 13 Community Support Unit and the Tactical Support Team, became involved in a firearms and drug investigation.
 
At approximately 3:00 p.m., officers attended to the area of Lockport Road located in St. Andrews, Manitoba after which time search warrants had been obtained. Prior to executing the search warrants, officers conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of an adult male and adult female. The following items were located and seized:
 
·        $4520.00 cash
·        3 cellular phones
 
A short time later, a Firearms and Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant were executed at a residence near the previously mentioned location. The following items were located and seized by officers:
 
·        175 grams of powder cocaine – estimated street value $8000.00
·         29 grams of hash – estimated street value $580.00
·        122 grams of cutting agent
·        Various drug paraphernalia
·        Loaded 8mm magazine
·        Ballistic vest
·        .22 calibre bullet
·        Various gang paraphernalia (attire)
 
Shane Allen FISCHER, 31 years has been charged with numerous drug and firearm related offences due to his alleged involvement. He has also been charged with Failing to Comply with Condition Recognizance x 4. He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
Nicole Joy NYKORAK, 26 years has been charged with numerous drug and firearm related offences due to her alleged involvement, including Parole Revocation and Suspension of Statutory Release. She was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
UPDATE - ARSON - ARRESTS C12-8187
As previously released, on January 14, 2012, at approximately 7:10 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the 500 block of Sherbrook Street regarding a working fire.
 
As a result of the event, approximately 40-50 people were evacuated from the area. Numerous people were treated in hospital, all of which are listed in stable condition.
 
The structure is a complete loss and damage is more recently estimated at $1,000,000.00.
 
Due to the efforts of the Arson Strike Force, Division #11 Detectives and Uniform Patrol members, two adult males and one male youth have been arrested and charged with the following:
 
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Arson – Damage to Property 
They have been detained.
 
Motorists and pedestrians are requested to avoid the area as Sherbrook Street between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue remains closed to all traffic.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
UPDATE - COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C11-226796
As previously released, on October 28th, 2011 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to a convenience store within the 400 block of Edison Avenue for a robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival, officers learned that a lone male suspect armed with two knives, while concealing his identity entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes from two employees. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the store. 
 
There were no reported injuries to either clerk. 
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
On January 14, 2012, at approximately 4:10 a.m., a 23 year old male was placed under arrest. He has been charged with:
 
·        Robbery with Weapon
·        Disguise with Intent
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
